You could have it evacuated to see how much is left. Then they can refill it and charge you accordingly.

If all it just needs is a refill...you're lucky. Get it refilled right away.

Remember, if it needed a refill...you have a leak somewhere. Not only does the Freon keep the seals moist, it also has lubricate in it to keep the compressor from seizing.

You can buy a refill can of H134a at the autoparts store or WalMart that has a hose and a guage on it. $25 I think. You add in gas until the arrow is in the green. Simple.

I found a problem on my 2004 STI though. The acumulator (or reciever dryer) on the passanger side of the condenser and the condenser (A/C rad in front of the engine radiator) were rubbing each other. There is a leak there now I believe.

I'll have to pull the nose soon and inspect.

The FIRST thing to check is the condenser! I went thru this last summer with my '05. It wasn't blowing cold at all so I figured it was low, put in a can of juice and it seized up my compressor (since it wasn't really low).

What you can do is have a buddy hold a garden hose near the top of your condenser (the A/C "radiator" in front of your regular radiator) and see if it blows cold. If it does blow cold that means that the condenser is plugged up with bugs or bent fins. I could see the condenser was full of bugs in the bumper holes below/next to the license plate. I went to an A/C place and they had fab'd some sort of power nozzle that they were able to fit between the condenser and the radiator to blow the bugs back out the front.

So, I wasted money on 1) the can of juice I bought, 2) having to get the system refilled after I had to bleed out all (since I overfilled it) and 3) having the A/C place clean out the condenser. Also, the compressor started worked again after bleeding out all the juice and having it professionally filled so I consider myself lucky notdamaging the compressor.

What has the temp been there in AZ? If it is cool enough the A/C will only turn on for a short time then kick off i.e. it wont get cold, it will get cool though. You could also check your condenser. Look at it for any oil on it. Other then that just get it refilled.

what do you mean "ice cold", you do know it is just a "air conditioner" right? its only meant to cool the air not freeze and have ice cube shoot out at you!! you may just need a evacuate and recharge, and have some dye put into the system to see if you have a leak.

Have you tried to have a buddy hose down your condenser (A/C radiator in front of your coolant radiator) while you sit in the car to see if it gets any cooler?

its climate control, dont expect the a/c to blow ice cold air when you turn it up to the coldest temp. try turning it to 65 F when its 40F outside and its going to blow warm slightly cold air.

Also how fast were you going? Remember the harder you are on the gas pedal the less the AC will work.
