Default '96 - '98 impreza L wagon questions.

I was shopping for a wagon and a wrecked STI to swap (motor, drivetrain, suspension, interior). Anyway I shattered my ankle 2 weeks ago, and that with surgery and no insurance ate the 16 grand I had set aside..... LAME.

Anyway I figured I would spend the extra time i now have and ask some more questions. First you guys are the pro's, what are some things I may run into? Mechanically it's a straight swap from my understanding. If I swap the entire harness over it, and dash, it requires I only splice headlights and turn signals, brake lights and such right? What about DCCD? Do they make Impreza wagons with manual windows and mirrors? I am also looking for some older fixed uo wagon pictures. I would like to do the swap on an even earlier wagon but I hear that it is much more difficult as far as wireing is concerned. Also I haven't found any really comprehensive writeups for this swap, I have searched but maybe I am just mis-guided. Does the narrower width of the wagon create problems?
Thank you much for your time
Grant.

Even when swapping the dash there's quite a bit more wiring than just 'headlights, turn signals, brake lights'...

the earlier model is is more difficult to wire is news to me especially with a dash swap

i say start with a straight shell with decent grey interior as early as you can find

Ok awsome. I was holding out for a super clean, straight ride. That's I really want to do a '95.

That thing looks awsome. I am a good welder and am good at fabrication. What is there to the dash swap? And what am I going to be looking at as far as wiring? Splicing, or what? What is going to need to be spliced into the harness? How do the older wagons handle with the STI suspension under them? About how quick are they being 500 or so pounds lighter? How long is the average swap time?

The progress has been at a stand still for about a month... have finals tomorrow and then i will continue.

So far i havn't finished up the wiring and still need to paint. As for the dash swap it's pretty easy if you take your time measuring everything and making it line up properly...

i'll do a write up in a couple weeks.
