My FXT is apart at a shop getting STi pink springs, and it turns out the previous owner went retro on the rear suspension (read: V7 style tophats). I need a set of 04+ tophats for the rear to accomodate the taper of the rear springs.
I am also open to going full coil-over, in which case I'll have a set of STi pink springs available ![]() I really need this soon (in the next 24 hours would be great), as my car is stranded on the lift and the guy really wants it out of there. Thanks.

OK, this is weird. I spoke with the person I purchased the vehicle from, and he is adamant that he never changed out the 04 FXT tophats, although he had WRX springs on the car. But the springs he had on do not taper off at the top like the new STi Forester pink springs that I just got to put on the Forester, and I'm positive that I need different tophats to accomodate these springs. I just want to confirm that the 07 rears you have are made to seat the substantial taper of the newer (V8 onward) springs.
I can take a picture tonight. I know this shouldn't be so complicated. I almost wonder if some (early run?) '04 FXTs could have left the factory with '03 hardware? Particularly with jdm STi's, Subaru had a tendency to use whatever parts were on-hand...maybe they did this on early '04 FXTs? Thanks. |

I found a picture of STi Ver 8 springs, which have the "tapered" top rear springs that I'm referring to. The springs the previous owner had on my FXT do not have the tapered top depicted, leading me to believe my rear strut tops are 02/03 style (Ver 7), and that I need new strut tops to accomodate the Ver 8+ STi pink springs I purchased.
Does this sound reasonable, or am I missing something? Thanks. ![]() |
