Default Clutch question on a '92 L I just bought

I've not had a Subaru cable clutch before, so this is a new beast to me. The clutch action is way different than my '98.

The engagement is way at the top of the travel. I can get the car to slip at probably 1-2 inches into the travel. Is this normal for this setup?

edit: Oh, and I've also not owned the 2.2 before. I don't recall anything I need to look for on this engine... but it does have 233k on it, so it'll be getting a new timing belt and tensioner, probably replace the front oil seal as well(I think its leaking), along with the valve cover seals. Anything else?

The cool thing about the cable clutch is you can set it how ever you want. I have mine set so I don't have to push the pedal much at all to engage the clutch. My 2.2 has 189k on it and running strong, just be sure to change all the fluids and keep up on the normal things and you should be fine, and if the motor blows its like $400 for a newer lower miles engine, or swap in a 2.5

Gotcha. I was also freaking out as to why the stupid car would NOT roll backwards at a stoplight... until I realized it has the hill holder clutch. And the powerband is WAY different than my 2.5 as well. This thing really lugs below 2k rpm I've noticed, where the 2.5 doesn't have this problem at all.

Oh yeah, the 2.2 is a dog below 3k. but its peppy between 3-4k and the taller 5th gear makes cruising on the freeway pretty nice, except you have to downshift to pass anyone. I'm running full synth in my diffs and uncle scotty's cocktail in my tranny. but this is my rallycross car so it gets driven pretty hard... find yourself a set of takeoff 2.5rs suspension and it drops the leggy about an inch and get a rear swaybar cause our cars didn't come stock with them and you'll like the way they handle.
