Default Factory Sunroof on WRX!!!

One of my employees just came back from Dominican Republic and he told me that the new WRX's getting there have the factory sunroof.

They have the International export Version ( Euro 17's, The good seats, front 4pots and rear 2pots breakes). STi will arrive mid-year! I will check on seats and headlights!

Not to toss too much irony into the fray, here, but I wouldn't want the sunroof on the STi. No sir.

I'd take a roof scoop over a sun roof anyday!

Yes. Roof scoop please. No sunroof. That would be sweet.

With whatever improvements that may come out in the next year, or the vaporware US STi what mods can be done to the current US 02 WRX?
ie. brakes
engine
turbo
etc?

Figures! Ah well, I'm glad I have one anyway. Nothing you can do when someone smashes you car and you have to get something right away and can't wait another year.

Thats why you never buy the first year of a new car (WRX new to the states I mean, I know it's been around in Japan / UK since 1994)
I'm waiting for 2003 or 2004 hoping for a sunroof, on-star and maybe something sweet like standard 17's

If they are putting in a sunroof, it's going to be very small. Attached are shots of the Impreza frame I took at the Detroit Show. If they're putting in a large sunroof, it'll definately affect stiffness.

I personally hope they put a sunroof in the WRX and the WRX STI. Im not so big on performance that I dont want a sunroof, and I think I could live with the sacrifice. After driving a car for 6yrs (1G DSM) here in CA w/out a sunroof, I sure do miss it. Almost necessary to have one out here. When I finally go to buy a car, Ill be looking at MKIV supras, the WRX STI and EVO IIV (if that does arrive) and a sunroof option on either the EVO or STI will be a big factor in my book.

I think a hood scoop would be lame. Yeah I know a lot of WRX owners are trying to live their wanabe rally car dreams, but common a hood scoop is better left for rice boys and their import showoffs.

what if they put in a sunroof, but leave that bar there? something for the passenger to grab when braking hard

It might be stylish to have a sunroof w/ a metal bar in the middle

Looking those pics, looks like the smallest size 'normal' sunroof, about 12"x30" glass, about 14"x32" frame, could squeeze in:
For example:

There is plenty of room for a sunroof, [that 1" strip of metal between the main structure members is insignificant if Subaru was to retro-fit a sunroof]. Perpendicular beams can be added to either side of the sunroof connecting the cowl to the b-pillar if ridigity is of concern.

IMO the RA gets the roof scoop cuz it has no a/c.

go over to Japan and call them rice boys and see how fast you can make it back to America before getting jacked .

why would you want a roof scoop? Does the air go back to cool the engine? Isnt the hood scoop enough? as far as daily driving and messing around. Or do you want a non functional type thing like on mustangs? I dont get why people buying the sti would want it? not trying to be a d*ck...let me know

The roof scoop is very functional. You want a roof scoop because the STI RA spec C is built as a stripped down race car and has no A/C. Kind of like an Integra Type R. The air coming in is to cool the driver since you don't want to be racing around hanging out the windows, especially if you are rallying. It essentially is a car that you can drive right off the lot to the track/rally and not have to do to much to it. The roof scoop doesn't come on the regular STI's/WRX's because those are the ones that are meant to be daily drivers.

Yeah, roof scoops are lame if your not in a genuine race car. They are meant for ventilation purposes in a setting where A/C isn't an option. It might be the ultimate "wet dream about being a real rally car driver" poser accessory there is. At the worst, in most cases it won't even be functional, and will only get filled up with a mass of road debris and dead insects.

The only "structural" roof member in those frame shots is between the B pillars. The small thin metal piece between the A and B pillars is just a roof "bow". Pretty common, and just keeps the sheetmetal perked up, esp. w/ thinner sheetmetal and rounded roof designs these days. It is not for rigidity, or I highly doubt it.

Replacing the roofbow w/ a sunroof, which will have a rigid frame mounted to the A and B cross members is probably actually stiffer than just
the roof bow, IMHO.

Well someone earlier was saying theyd rather have a roof scoop than a sunroof. If the car is gonna be used for actual racing duty then thats fine. But a roof scoop for a street car is lame no matter what (unless it does something else like feed air into the engine like on some exotics). Especially gven the choice between having ewither a sunroof or roof scoop available for the car.

BTW if I went to Japan and called em *******s I doubt theyd have any idea what I was talking about.
