Question Turbo size on US spec WRX?

With the coming of the new WRX, I have been thinking about turbo's a lot more. First-off, what is the size of the stock WRX turbo? What is it's peak out-put with this size turbo? Is this size turbo what limits the HP to 227? Is this turbo used on many other cars?

I couldnt say what size it is (I'd really like to see some whitesheets on the damn car), but I think the biggest restriction is the same as the other Subies: breathing fore and aft of the turbo. Time will tell when the tuning market heats up (as, oh baby, we hope it will).

Why only 227 HP? 3 cats probably don't help.

JGard, I thought the US-Spec WRXs were limited to 13.5 psi boost.

Question

Yeah, pardon me if this belongs in the newbie forum, but how is it that the WRX puts out a whopping 15.9 lbs of boost, but only manages 227 hp? I don't understand it.

2.0L displacement and 8:1 compression ratio = less air and fuel in the first place, but the turbo more than makes up for it with the high boost pressure.

If you search for "turbo" in the old "Archive: Technical Forum Archive" section, there's plenty of fact and heresay about this topic. A more convenient search may be one for posts by "Turbo", who was actually Redline Engineering (where Edwin and I got our bare kits from, and you may understand why no one else has them).
