Default newbie questions about CAI

I want to add a CAI sys to my new rex but i'm not sure about a lot of things when adding this mod. Thanks ahead of time for any and all help with my questions.

1.) Where does the CAI end up when going out the side of the engine compertment (between the fender well and engine compartment) ?

2.) Is there a benefit whether it goes out the side or under the hood?

3.) If not under the hood how is air fed to the filter?

4.) If not under the hood do you run greater risk of getting water in the engine?

5.) What are the chances of getting water in the engine? Is this something I should not concern myself with?

6.) Do you want more? Cause I can ask a million questions when it comes to spending some money I can be very undecisive. HELP!

Not too sure about the WRX, but i will answer the part about water.

I dont think that you'll have to worry about getting water in the engine/intake.

I run a cold air setup on my eclipse, and i do have to worry, or run it short-stack only cuz it puts my filter about 1/2" from the road. I dont think its this way on the WRX, however. I dont think you have anything to be concerned about, although i have read of people throwing Check Engine lights cuz of an intake on the WRX. They're sensitive.

Good luck. Hope I helped.
Be down your way next weekend for Blood Drags, in west palm.

Later

no, no, maybe, yes, ok, yes, no, wouldn't do it,
maybe, yes...whew, did i answer them all.

seriously...
1.) Where does the CAI end up when going out the
side of the engine compertment (between the fender
well and engine compartment) ?

you are correct. most of the CAI's (unless it's
a DIY-type of maybe one of the short ram ones)
end up between the fender well and engine bay.
doing a search for "CAI AND WRX" should yield
a BUNCH of threads, with pictures.

2.) Is there a benefit whether it goes out the
side or under the hood?

i would assume out the side, as you get more 'fresh'
cold air that way.

3.) If not under the hood how is air fed to the
filter?

if you look under your hood, there's a black
plastic 'air ram intake' thingy (no good term for
it) that basically connects to your bumper/front
grill. theoretically, air goes through the grill
into that, down into the fender well and through
the stock silencer, and then up into the
intake. air also comes from behind the fog light,
if you hack the silencer or add a CAI.

4.) If not under the hood do you run greater risk of getting water in the engine?
yes, you do. however, i'm not sure how great the
risk is, and there's differing opinions on this.
several florida folks (like yourself, i believe)
have this and report no problems. ask around
in the SE forum to see what i mean.

5.) What are the chances of getting water in the engine? Is this something I should not concern myself with?

it should at least be a minor concern (enough
to warrant avoiding large deep puddles of water,
like a lake).

6.) Do you want more? Cause I can ask a million questions when it comes to spending some money I
can be very undecisive. HELP!

no more questions, please. kidding...if you
really want to answer all of them, do that search
and you'll be busy for a long time...

1.) Where does the CAI end up when going out the side of the engine compertment (between the fender well and engine compartment) ? right behind the foglight

2.) Is there a benefit whether it goes out the side or under the hood? colder air on the outside...inside kinda hot cuz of engine heat

3.) If not under the hood how is air fed to the filter? just cold air in the fender...and u can remove the foglight too...

4.) If not under the hood do you run greater risk of getting water in the engine? only if submerge ur car deep in water

5.) What are the chances of getting water in the engine? Is this something I should not concern myself with? not to great...i don't worry too much...

6.) Do you want more? Cause I can ask a million questions when it comes to spending some money I can be very undecisive. HELP!
nope...don't wan't more!

your ecu is going to be fighting your CAI...
your best performace gain is going to be exhaust (turbo back) and getting that uppipe replaced.

CAI can mess up the stock MAF sensor. The MAF was specificly tuned for our tubing. Any change and things get screwy.

I would seriously consider getting an exhaust system before CAI. You'll get a ton of gains out of it...
