Default a/c underhood explosion!

Driving to work a few days ago with the ac on when it suddenly starts blowing warm air. Within five seconds I hear a loud BOOOOOOM psshhhhhhhhhhh and smoke pours out of the vents and out from under the hood. I pull over and there is oil everwhere and the discharge hose from the compressor is blown wide open. I guess the condenser has a clog in it. yesterday I pulled the ac compressor and dumped out what little oil was left in it. It was black, thick and had little shiny things in it that I suspect are metal shaving. All of that crap must have blocked up the condenser.

I had recently gotten the system recharged and the guy who did it told me that the pressure seemed high and that there may be a clog in the system somewhere. Oh well. Looks like I am going to delve into the world of a/c repair.

That will be an expensive repair. Since the whole system is contaminated with metal you'll need to replace all the major components, and either blow the lines out or replace them as well.
I'd also question the competence of the person or shop who did the service. If they saw the pressure was high they shouldn't have just recharged it, they should have found the problem and fixed it. Perhaps you can get something out of them.
