Question Recommended shops in Albuquerque Area?

Hello,

What shop(s) do you guys recommend to get works done? I own a GC8.
I am specifically looking for:
1. Mechanic (for fixing problems, i.e. pulling OBD codes, etc.)
2. Suspension adjustments (alignment, etc.)
3. Aftermarket support (Turbo install help/engine managements)
4. Tow-trucks?

Thanks for your help.

Kai

I highly recommend Chet's for suspension and alignment issues. I don't know yet (thank goodness) who to go to for anything else.

I was watching Motorweek on PBS last week, and the show was sponsored in part by a local mechanic who listed Subarus first in the list of makes he services.

Of course, I promptly forgot the name... Figgered I'd catch it next time on Motorweek.

PS - Hey, Sarge. How'd the Rally-X go this weekend?

The RallyCross was great. The site worked out extremely well. One of the reasons the test event was so limited in participants was uncertainty about the site and whether or not the Safety Steward would cancel the event once he got a look at it. No worries! It was a blast! Now that the program is approved, we're looking forward to the next event on March 17th.

Thanks for the responses so far.

Radioflyer, I think that "Subaru specialist" is Jeff's Gasoline Alley. I took my car there once, and he doesn't seem to know RS's too well. (My own personal opinions, of course) I don't really think he's all that keen with the newer Subarus, probably mainly becase he doesn't see them too much (a kinda testimony on how reliable our cars are ). I've heard feedbacks that he's great with the older models of Suby's, however. I do get the impression that Jeff runs a pretty honest business.

I will check out Chet's Alignment after my suspension install.

p.s. I forgot to ask about body shops. I want to get my sideskirts painted.

For pant and body I like Bodyworks by R&C, 293-6527.

Figured I'd check out the subaru sandbox after the rally-x last weekend. Nice site you guys got.

If you need codes pulled I have a OBD-2 Scanner that can also pull a full datastream and has 70 seconds of record on the data stream for diognostic purposes. It can give every thing fron individual injector pulsewidths to manifold pressue. I work at Loree Motorsports we focus strongly on miatas race/street though the owner has no desire to work on subarus I can open the shop after hours and do most of your bolt on work. All the stuff the dealer can't and won't do. Let me know if any one needs anything.

Keith at Chets is like a jedi with that hunter machine. Definately worth the money to have him corner weight the car and align it.

All right Ben! I was hoping that you all would eventually consider doing some Subaru work (even if it's after hours). We've got to get the boss to drive one of the Scoobies. I think he'll see how far they've come since the bad old days when he used to work on them.

I've been thinking lately about specializing on rally cars.

I've been thinking about building or buying one.

It's always cheaper to buy a car that's already a legal racecar with logbook than to convert a production car into a legal racecar.

That's what I'm thinking. I could get a great Group 2 car with all of the goodies pretty cheap. I'm really tempted to build a PGT car, despite the intense competition in that class. At the ClubRally level it isn't too bad.

My advice is to know your season budget before hand. Rally is very much a war of attrition. Get what you can afford, but definately get something that's easy to fix and dosen't break much. Even if it's not the quickest thing in the field.
