Post NA 2.5 to JDM 2.0 Swap

Hey everyone! Scooby Newbie here with my first post. be gentle preez
I hope this is in the right place

I'm looking into swapping out my NA 2.5 with 200k for a lower mileage NA JDM 2.0

Have an 03 Legacy L that had 189k on the motor when I got it. She knocks a wee bit while warming up.

I'm away from home 11hrs a day for work and don't have tons of spare time for diving through the forums.
But from what I've read I'll need to swap sensors from the 2.5 over to the 2.0, the intake and exhaust manifold, as
well as the Cam gears and crank gear.

Main question is my car has a 5 speed in it and all the motors I've found came off cars with AT and it
looks like where the hole for the starter is on my Tranny, there isn't one on the Auto? Any insight would be tits. I
don't want to purchase the motor and have it not mate to my tranny properly. Would I just have to get a different starter or am I just seeing things wrong?

It's my daily and I'm really hoping to get the swap done over a weekend. I've pulled the motor to replace the clutch
so getting the old one out won't be an issue for me.

Hi,
Transmission doesn't matter. Swap the clutch/PP/FW from yours to the JDM, along w/the starter. As long as they both are Phase 2 ('99+) the engines should have all the holes you need to mount stuff.

EGR would be the other concern. I don't know if '03 2.5's had it, nor if JDM ever did. There's an EGR tube that goes to the pass. side head - from the IM.

RE: 2.5: If it only knocks on startup, RU sure it's not piston slap? That was more common on the older EJ25D.

GL,
Td

You might have to put a stud in your 5 spd tranny on the lower bolt hole for the starter, but it isn't too big of a deal. (I put a 2000 outback 5 spd tranny into my 96 imp wagon but I had to do the lower bolt hole fix) so I got a 12 x 1.75 stud (cut to proper length), got a tap and tapped the tranny lower starter bolt hole for the new stud, put a decent bit of red loc-tite on the stud and threaded it in the hole and let it sit for a little while to set up. Will have to modify the lower hole on the starter a bit for the larger stud, but not to hard either. The stud needs to stick out about 1 " or so. But other than that, the engine will bolt to your tranny no problem.
