I just stayed up until almost 4 in the morning reading this entire thread start to finish. I have never attempted a full swap yet, and after reading and seeing all of that, I am not sure that I ever want to! You are my long lost brother when it comes to OCD, and being meticulous. Everything takes 40% longer when it has to be perfect!

Monster Kudos to you sir for the amazing writeup, and the detailed pictures! Great work! Sad to see that you are selling her.

question...im doing the same thing but the rs i bought came with an auto tranny. I Just mounted the engine and tranny and noticed that where i didnt have a 5 speed shifter, there arent any bolts holes for a rear stay bushing on the body. Should i drill holes into the body to accomodate for this? what exactly did you do?

The holes are there but they are plugged with rubber plugs and probably coated with undercoating. Dig around a little and I bet you find them. In evey Subaru I have ever swapped, I have never had to drill holes for anything. The only exception is the old GL wagons.

Good to see people are still benefiting from this swap.

There are numerous people who PM me and I'm sorry for not replying. Please remember that I did this swap over 3 years ago now. I did the write up because I knew I wouldn't remember. If you have a question please post it up in the forum below or in this thread; either way works. I will try to help where I can but there are definitely more seasoned people than me on this forum.

Sadly I have sold the car but still see it around every so often. I have moved on to the NSX world. Hopefully I keep it for 10 years like I did the Subaru.

hey do you know what sensors run off the brown and black connectors running off the main engine harness. I' doing a 98 2.5rs to 05 wrx swap and the 05 doesn't have that big gray connector that runs off those black and brown connectors. so I kinda ran into a speed bump. I want to solder them into the wires coming out of the ecu plug but cant find out what sensors run off that side of the harness.

This is amazing! My life just became 100x easier so thank you. I'm in the middle of doing an 06 WRX swap with a built ej257 motor into my 98 OBS and it's the first time I've ever done this... I noticed someone was asking about the fitment of the WRX axles. My donor car is a sedan (I believe it has 99.4" wheelbase) and I have read various things about this causing binding and wear on the CV joints when installed on the older Imprezas with smaller wheelbase. Have you had any issues with the entire WRX setup (crossmember/lateral links/axles/etc.) Thanks!

In the front if you use the WRX control arms then you will have no problem (that's what I did on the Subaru). Using the WRX rears would give you too much camber so I would stick with your current links.

Also if anyone needs the wiring diagrams for the 98-01 Impreza (should be all models) then PM me your e-mail address and I'll get back to you. Put a subject line in otherwise it will probably go to spam.

Wow, im in the process of swapping an '04 STi motor into my 98 legacy 2.5gt- even though they are different cars and motors altogether- this has been an invaluable help for me. your explainations and photos are going a long way in helping me feel a bit more comfortable when i get stuck. it really is a lot simpler than it seems- i tend to overcomplicate things which leads to throwing wrenches, but i have found that a 20 minute session of reading and staring at your photos is much more therapeutic way of dealing with electrical confusion. my walls are better off too. thanks again man, have fun with your acura- but we all know you'll be back into subatroopin' someday. mid engine is no replacement for awd boxer power!
