Default worth getting an 08, or should I say screw it and just get the 03 i want?

I'm jumping on the subaru bandwagon, and i recently found an 08 wrx wagon with 6k for $20... thinking about picking it up.

is the aftermarket for the 2.5L gonna pick up, or should i just stick with the 03 bugeye wagon i've been looking at for $13? buying a car i'm going to have to pay out the a** to modify isnt really appealing at the moment.

but, i still cant decide. 7 grand more for a car thats 5 years newer is appealing... any other benefits to the 08 over the 03 aside from bigger engine? I wish it had a 6sp stock... can the 08's be made 6sp?

08 is more reliable than the 03, probably still has the warranty.

still has the warranty.

are you saying its more reliable because its newer/less miles, or because the 03's were unreliable?

In mid '03 I think the tranny was beefed up. Near the end of the model year aparently heads also went shimless buckets (cause aparently mine had them). That's about it.

All in all I would say the engine and 'newness' easily make up for the 7k price difference.

Aftermarket is always better to do yourself. Doesn't matter on the price, you get gratification and you know it was done right. Another thing is mods = beat on sometimes.

I would hate to buy someones problems without a warranty.

Just about anything you can do to the 03 can be done to the 08 with what's out right now. Maybe not as many body kits but that's about it.

for sure, i'd definitely rather do it myself. that question was more directed towards the 08 though in terms of part availability

Almost all of the LGT parts fit (engine mod wise), and some companies have come out with suspensions. So the 08 looks like a good choice now that everything is almost avail.

After market is up and running. Turbo's, intercoolers, injectors, intakes, intake manifolds, injectors, pumps...... you name it.

Is the 5MT in the '08 the same as the LGT? If so it's pretty beefy.
