I am writing this thread just to warn all of you about Ebay parts and to take the time and consider other wise when purchasing critical pieces..
Last night I was driving home from school when all of a sudden my car just stopped runninng. I tore into this morning checking the fp controller and all the fuses.. nothing,, so I decided to remove a few bolts from the dust cover and noticed the timing belt was loose, pulled on it and yup, it snapped, which most likely has screwed up engine. There are timing belt kits sold on Ebay at a very reasonable price, I am warning all of you that have tight pockets, when it comes to this sort of thing, don't skimp out,, buy OEM!!!!!!! ending on that note,, I will probably be selling a bunch of stuff here shortly so keep an eye out.

yes it was the timing belt that came with the kit,, the rest I don't know if I would worry about since they are just rollers and a tensioner,, shoot, maybe the tensioner went bad,

that has nothing to do with ebay, ebay isn't a brand of car parts. You bought some cheap chinese knockoff on ebay and THAT caused issues. you could have easily bought an OEM timing belt off ebay also.

Sorry about your luck, I'll have to be careful with mine.
Did the belt come in a red and black box? Was it made by PCI? |

Yea dood I beleive that is the same thing,, to be honest with you.. I would use the rollers and tensioner but I would not use that belt,, spend the money and buy a good belt a $150 more is well worth the cost of a new engine. Unless you really want to just replace it anyways..

Thats the thing, I just replaced the engine!
I'll Probably change it soon. Did you determine the cause yet? Cheap belt? Tensioner? |

Actually General Tso's Chicken is American just served by the Chinese. They don't even have that in the motherland!

he said it had 30k on it. im guessing thats 30k miles he put on it. but you can easily misread this as he bought it with 30k miles on it. i sure hope you didnt buy used ebay stuff

Ah, gotcha, that would make more sense.
The only Ebay timing belt kits that caught my eye were the ones that were labeled as OEM and stamped with Subaru. Is that the kit you bought (possible knock offs)? What was the "branding" rather than making a blanket statement that could easily be applied to any generic local autoparts store brand also. |

I bought it from "the import store" I believe the brand is PDI.. if you search here in Nasioc "Timing belt" there are a couple of forums where people actually use them and didn't have a problem, even recommend,, hint: thats where I got the idea.
I did contact theimportstore and they did email back concerned about this, they said it was a first for them and they wanted me to give them a call.. Which will happen as soon as I tear into it this weekend and see if anything else could of actually caused this.. As well, I need to check up on the make of the belt and see if theres any gaurantee's or whatever.. It never hurts,, I'll keep y'all posted.. |

something like this,, if something went wrong,, is gonna cost 2k + so I'm better off buying a sick new engine.. but if I put a new belt on and it runs,, then I'm golden,, but I'm not bettin on it

+1 for OEM!
I go to 9k+ all the time with stock belt/pulleys/tensioner etc. I did loose a PS belt once but that was after 30k miles. |
