You can't just clear the code and get inspected. You must drive ~400 miles without any CEL's popping up to pass.

Your more than welcome to use my code reader again....but it might not allow the station to test your car....the ECU will read back a "not ready" status.

if you have a tactrix cable, you can download an opensource program and disable the CEL - then drive for a couple hundred miles and you'll be ok

If you want to come down to Framingham I can do it. I'm here until 11pm weekdays.

Provided that you keep your gas cap tight you could have a leak in the Evap system. I'm of course guessing at the problem here but there is a conditional code that comes up a lot on Subarus that is only tested with under approximately half a tank of gas. The ECU probes the EVAP system for pressure to ensure that emissions gasses aren't leaking into the atmosphere. It's worth a try but you can clear the code, keep the tank full (frequent gas stops) Certain EVAP situations will never be tested if you keep the gas above approximately half a tank. Try to keep the car over half a tank or so for 100miles to get the ecu to show readyness.

What is the code specifically that pops up? We might be able to help with that info.

thanks for the replies guys...

Frenchie came over and cleared the codes for me... I guess she has the same codes on her Impreza

Anyway... The code came back on JUST as I pulled into the gass station
He passed me for everything else, (including my NOT so stock exhaust ) just got a black R(better than a red one from 06)... ...awesome place if you ask me.

I then removed my EGR valve, cleaned the CRAP out of it, and reinstalled.... drove 110 miles with no problems. So I drove back and got it inspected. passed with flying colors

BUT...I got no more than 1/2 a mile from the gass station and the CEL came back !

stupid ass EGR

there is a good chance you always have an EVAP problem, and your evap readiness test just hasnt been performed yet, and when it does your light comes on. You can pass with either one or two (varying from state to state, last time i checked MA is 2) ECU tests reporting 'not ready' so its likely you just got lucky and had enough of them ready and passed without meeting the conditions for your EVAP readiness test to be performed.

what's the code your getting? autozone can read codes for free.

the original 2 codes where EGR and idle ... forget exactly...

The code has since came and left once again (without resetting ECU) and has been gone for the last 100 miles or so

I am waiting for my USB scan tool to arive from japan... if it comes back I will check it again
