Why not look in the owners manual?

F AutoZone, they suck. OP, 4.8 it is....do you not have an owners manual? Searching helps too. Dump all 5 Qt in, you'll be fine....you don't get a full Qt out of each bottle anyway.

Whats really weird is... I'm super anal about oil level..

so:

oil change at 57,546 (when i bought the car), I put in 5.5 qts castrol 5w-30

oil change at 60,231, I put in 5.5 qts castrol 5w-30

oil change at 62,949, I put in 5 quarts Amsoil 5w-30

I swear my level has always been perfect to top mark on all 3 oil changes. so I cant understand how 5 quarts is full when it was 5.5 before.

Which top mark? Sounds like your oil should be hitting the max notch instead of the full line.

maybe you're right. but i thought it was the high mark of high/low. I been holding off on putting in the extra 1/2 quart until I measure a few more times.

Make sure you measure on flat ground, front driveways are notorious for misleading oil levels.

I have witnessed this in a buick 3800. The shop I was working at did the oil change, she came back 1/2hr-1hr later saying we owed her for 12qts she purchased to top the oil level off on her car. We were confused until we realized what she had done was to fill it up until oil was at the oil cap. We went out to the car and there was a pool under the car about 3 feet wide and running out from behind the car.
