Default CEL on, getting P0447

first off, '02 WRX, 60k miles, 5 speed, no modifications.

So a few days ago my CEL came on so I borrowed a scanner from a friend, and it came up with 2 EVAP leak codes, so i figured, no big deal, probably the gas cap. so I took it off and tightened it back on and cleared the codes and figured all was well. the light stayed off for about a day and came back on this morning. so I checked it again, another EVAP code, i'm pretty sure it was P0447 (i have it written down i should probably go check). So where do i start as far as diagnosing this thing. I've never even looked at the EVAP system. My car runs fine, but i still don't want this on.

any help would be appreciated.
thanks,
Adam

The wires at the charcoal canister in the back on the passenger side under the car would be the first thing I would check.

I have had the 0447 multiple times, it seems to go away and come back randomly.

well I drove for awhile with it on, figured it was just a bad gas cap. I had the car on a lift and checked all under it and I can't find anything visibly wrong. So I just replaced the cap and cleared the codes and started the car. it wasn't even on for two seconds and the light came back on. so its not the cap, and I have no idea what to do. there still are not any symptoms excpet the CEL. Any more suggestions?

You would have to check the wiring with a tester, but there's no problem with driving the car like that. It doesn't effect anything else...

so you think its just a false reading? there has to be a sensor to tell the ECU that the system is pressurized. I wonder where that is.

No, it's probably a wire broken, corroded or fallen off somewhere under there at the rear near the canister or maybe the solenoid is stuck open. But as for driving it like that, it's not a problem for any performance or reliability reasons.

well I realize that, its just annoying driving with the CEL on. do you happen to know where the solenoid is? I should just find someone that has a full scan tool so I can try commanding it on and off.
