Default Toronto area guys who have an STi swap.

I was looking for someone to do my STi Ver. III swap and Dan at Godspeed recommended a guy in Toronto named Yoshio. He said that he has done several of these swaps. Anyone out there a satisfied customer? I'll be giving him a call later this week. Thanks.

You should check out the Toronto Subaru Club and ask there because alot of members get work done by him.

Personally, I haven't had any work done yet, but I am getting my ECU upgraded by him in the coming months. I have only heard good things about Yoshio and I know he did a Impreza-WRX conversion for Subaru of Canada.

Yoshi comes very highly recommended.
He is doing programable ECU upgrades for the club.
Been doing race and Rally cars for 20 years now.

From what I hear you can't go wrong.

I got my swap done buy Lachute Subaru. Or at least the installation of the engine and wiring as I did the rest. I think I'm going to hold them responsible for the set of tires I'm burning off with my new horsepower.

They rebuilt the engine and did all the wiring. To my surprise they plugged it all in, put the engine in. Disconnected some sensors (crank and cam) to get the oil flowing. After they they tried to start it and first crank it was running. Not bad, worked fine first try...

Default Yoshio

A freind of mine has had a bunch of work done on his (eek...) 90 Celica All Trac Turbo by Yoshio. He had the entire top end of the engine redone, as well as a fully adjustable suspension installed. Yoshio did great work and his prices were reasonable...though he does take his time! I'm taking my WRX to him soon to have a few things done. The other people I can think of for STi swaps is Four Star Racing. THe Sprongles also do some great work and, although the pricing may seem a touch high, they will stand behind anything that they do...either should be a great choice...

What is the typical cost [cnd$] of a VIII swap ?

1] parts
2] labour

Are the parts bought from an importer in Canada or sourced from abroad ?

Question

Same here - trying to price out my options before I go head first. But sounds like turboing the EJ25 is a tad easier.

Slapping a turbo on a 2.5 is easier but making it run well is far far harder. If you buy a front clip that's in working condition then you just swap the parts from A to B and do the wiring. Once that is done you've got a reliable and good running setup without having to spend weeks tuning.

I have no personal experience with Yoshio but the people who maintain the Subaru Canada rally cars recommended against it saying that the rally car he prepared was not well done. Take it for what it's worth. Lots of people here recommend him so go check him out for yourself.

I done both on my car.. Turbo the 2.5RS and put a STi engine in it. and let me tell you that for me, putting a STi engine in it, its a lot easier in total..

Complete Clip = unbolt, and rebolt the new one in place.. I done mine by my self almost..

the only parts taht is a little bit more complexe, its the wiring, but again, its not that hard when you got the good people on your side..

If you want 215hps.. I will go with a turbo on a 2.5rs..
If you want a lot more, and ready to spend more.. Go with a Swap.. a big turbo kit (like I was running), cost me the same price (specialy time for tuning it, and it was still not perfect) that what a 280hps WRX kit is selling.

my 2 cents.

Hmm... interesting thought. With the swap and the gas we gets here (91 or 94, which one you tuned for?), how much power are you getting? I know for fact that turboing an EJ25 will require more tuning but parts are easy to obtain, where as the swap you gotta know who you are dealing with (and I have absolutely no connection whatsoever). I mean, sure if I can get a good used EJ20 STi and knows a friendly shop (that does swap well) locally, I would think about that as an option. But all that torque in the EJ25 (yeah I know, it breaks trannies)... you know what I mean.
