Default EJ22 in 99 Forester

I have a 99 Forester (EJ25 Phase 2) I would like to install a EJ22 Phase 1 motor. Any advice on what year would be the best donor motor? Or would it be best to install a EJ22 Phase 2? I am looking for a plug and play if possible. But I do not mind making the wiring to work. Thanks, Todd

Are you looking to install a turbo motor or a N/A motor? If it's the former, there is no "plug and play". If it's the latter, why would you want to do that?

I just want a N/A motor. The Forester has 190000 miles on it. The 2.5 has a large hole in the block where it looks like a rod let go. I am just looking for a economy vehicle. I am planning on putting a used engine in it and the 2.5 is alot higher than the 2.2. Plus I have heard about HG problems on the 2.5. I am looking for some advice from the experts. Thanks, Todd

find another 2.5

as the ecu is maped for a 2.5 not a 2.2 ... and thus will have all sorts of mapping issues (least of which would be gas mileage)

Based on what I'm seeing on eBay (just to compare prices), I'm thinkin' the cost of the EJ22 + EJ22 ECU is going to come out about the same as a used EJ25. The fuel economy gains would be marginal. And if your current engine lasted 190,000 then I guess the HG problems aren't so bad, eh?
