Default 3rd, and hopefully last engine to go into the RSTi

After the engine that came with the car threw a rod, and the engine I installed after that chewed up the bearings, I'm rebuilding everything to an almost obsessive level.

Specs:
EJ22T Shortblock
Stock Rods/Crank
Michigan 77 bearings
EJ25D Heads
V4 STI-RA valvetrain incl. cams
Aasco 14lbs flywheel (replacing the stupid 7 lbs flywheel that was on it before)
Centerforce Dual-Friction clutch (replacing the ridiculous 3 puck, woo! driveability here I come)
Deadbolt VF34 Turbo

Every oil galley has been scrubbed, soaked, scrubbed, cleaned, blown out, scrubbed and blown out again, the block was jet cleaned multiple times, everything re-honed, polished and scraped.

With a bit of luck, this motor will be back in the car by Friday, then Ive given myself 2 weeks to work out the bugs and then its due for the dyno on May 2nd.

Looking for 300whp, 300wtq.... however I dont think I'll be able to make it on the 550cc injectors I have.

Cheers for being persistent. 300whp/300wtq shouldn't be a problem at all. Can't wait to see results.

BTW, 7lb flywheel + 3 puck clutch?? Must have been fun to drive in traffic.

ugh it was horrible. If you didn't launch from a stop, it'd stall. Parking lots were a nightmare, parallel parking was nigh impossible.

find the weakest link in your chain, and what does it hold you to ?

in general, a built block doesnt' make "more power" than a POS block, unless the CR is significantly changed, but even if it is, unless you raise the boost (which is normally why you want a built block) you aren't going anywhere. Yes some heads flow more than others and yes some piston designs are better than others, but if your turbo is out of juice, its out of juice. same for injectors...

on a turbo which is already maxed out on a stock block, building a block isn't going to get you anywhere... except for maybe even more out of the efficiency range of that turbo...

building a block gets you really far if you have like a gt35 or something which isn't even trying at 21psi... then a built block is a good idea to run it harder. Or, if you have a setup and want to get better heads, that makes a difference.

I've never seen any sort of pinks setup ever come close to those numbers on a DD dyno, nor a vf34. Its not the tuning thats deciding that either...

My vf24 on the 2.0l came close to those numbers, and that block had 50% leak in two cylinders didnt it?

Anyway I want driveability more than peak power, I'll take whatever you can get out of it for me

the hp isn't really going to go up if the turbo is already maxed out...
i.e. pick a 1.5L engine. max out the turbo until its a heat gun... put the same turbo on a 3L engine, with same header setup etc. the turbo is going to max out way sooner in the RPM band. the tq number at that point will be way higher. the peak hp wont really because the turbo will be out of juice way sooner. Now do the same test, but with the turbo not maxed out, but in its peak efficiency range for each setup. you're again not going to get a huge number.

You feel you'll avoid future problems with stock rods?

300whp with a vf34? I hope you hit that.

how much is all this costing you? I'm very interested in doing an engine rebuild in the future, but just curious to know the numbers you're dealing with.

I work at a parts store, so I get everything at cost. My cost for this would not be comparable to yours.
