Default Register a car in MI without an MI license?

Anyone know if I can register a car in Michigan while having an out-of-state license? I have a home here, but I think my NY license is kewl ...new emissions inspection in NY however, is NOT.

That's a tough call. The second link almost makes me believe you can, because they talk about being able to mail in a form. No way to show DL there. That being said it almost sounds like you'll get pinched when you go to get your license plate. They'll want to see your ID and whether the SOS website says it or you they "expect" you to get a Michigan DL as soon as you are a permanent resident of that state. IDK what they do about someone that literally spends 50/50 in two states.

You remember all of Britney Spears woes about driving on a Louisiana license in Cali right? Something about how ticketed her for not have a proper license. She was supposedly technically a permanent resident of Cali so they still didn't consider her Louisiana license adequate. I know, I know...IByouaretehgheyforknowingstupidcrapaboutBri tneySpear.

Keep the NY license, it IS cooler.

Actually it would be in your best interest to get a MI license so when you go back to New York, you can be an MI resident and not worry about emissions like you say. Plus the whole taxes in MI being cheaper. So yeah, forget what I said about the NY license being cooler.
