Default Battery go boom

Well, I did an uppipe/downpipe install and went stage 2 last week but not after breaking the "half moon" cylinder head plug and having my engine catch on fire. I replaced the plug and valve cover gasket and all is holding up well except for some smoke from the uppipe still burning off under close supervision.

My new problem, from what I've read, is a shot voltage regulator. My battery light is on, my accessport reads an average voltage of 17.8V, my battery is seeping acid and one of my headlights just blew. So replacing the alternator seems simple enough, what would be the most inexpensive route to procure one by tomorrow, dealership, NAPA...$? Also, is it necessary to replace the battery as well?

Thanks,
Andy

recomend autozone duralast alternators.... if it ever goes again... LIFETIME WARRANTY! wooo!

I have a optima yellow top in my legacy for one reason... about every 3 or 4 months the alternator blows out, and i have about 2.5 hours of drive time to get to an autozone graba new one, 10 minutes in the parking lot good as new!

sure i could replace the corroded wires... but im lazy, and its my beater car... haha

Yes you should replace the battery. If it's been overcharged like that and boiled over it's NG.

Reluctantly, I'm gonna get an AZ Duralast alternator. I haven't heard great things about them but they have a lifetime warranty, they are right around the corner from me, and it's in stock. Dealer wanted $458 for alternator!!

All is good. New alternator and new battery voltage is reading 13.8V at idle.

Thanks all
