So my Rear-Diff is done for - and I need to source a replacement.
I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/reman...QQcmdZViewItem It says it should be a direct replacement for mine - can anyone help to confirm this? part# 27011AA342R1 also replaces part# 27011AA343 Thanks for any help, - BD

You should be able to put one from a wrx in too.

Isn't the WRX an LSD and the OEM Legacy (BD) an Open Diff?
If this is the case - would the WRX one be a drop in replacement, or would it require modification? - Brendan Doss |

bdoss123 - you'd require a R&P swap from your BD to the WRX diff to allow you to run the WRX diff. You'd also have to swap out your rear axles as they're different for the LSD vs. open diff.

Alright - I'd like to stick with a drop-in replacement.
Is the one that I linked to in the first post a direct replacement? Any thoughts on it? - BD |

Sorry forgot I had a wrx tranny so thats why I can have the wrx diff but I am pretty sure they didnt have to do a thing to my rear axles.

just ask if its a 4.11 ratio open-diff.
an LSD 4.11 from a 99-01 2.5RS will also work. Just to add, that's for the Manual transmission cars. The autos have different ratios, I haven't looked into those though... Last edited by rougeben83; 04-17-2008 at 03:29 PM. |

The guy's ebay points look pretty legit and the $15 to ship that semi heavy part is a good deal, but as I look at it, it seems to me that the dealer would've done a better job cleaning up the front part of the case.
That could be my OCD complex talking though. We have a local junkyard with a 96 Outback that still has it's rear diff in there. I could ask the junkyard what he wants for it if your curious, but if the insides of that ebay diff are gone through, bid your max and see what happens. $215 for a delivered rear diff sounds like a fair price. I guess you could always paint it black when it arrives if cosmetics were an issue. I heard back from the guy, he said that it's a LSD and he doesn't know the ratio.

Did you try looking for a diff from your local salvage yards in the website I posted? I don't know where you are located but a quick search in my area turns up a dozen of them from $125 on up. You could've had one in your hands already

I found two fairly close by, one from a 96 outback and one from a 97 Impreza, waiting to hear back on the gear ratios.

I did find one other 4.11 on car-part.com but it was fairly high mileage so I wanted to know if the 96 Outback or 97 Impreza would fit. Thanks again, - BD |

4.111 Was a pretty well used ratio on Subaru Legacy, I think all outbacks have a 4.111 (non turbo). 1996 5MT Outback came with a 4.111.
No wonder my 2000 L felt like crap on the freeway, it had a 3.9! The WRX 4EAT had a 4.111 LSD rear diff, try finding one of those. |

I believe that's correct, the WRX axles and stubs are different than Legacy axles.

One of the places swears their Diff is from a 97 Legacy but says it is a 4.44, is this possible?

If it came from an automatic, yes.

Boostinwrx, I have tried to PM and EMail you. It seems like outgoing PMs are not working for me right now.
Can you shoot me a PM with your email address? |

Where are you located? I think I still have mine from my '97 GT from when I swapped the drivetrain. It had ~150k but worked fine. I'd rather not ship it due to weight, so if you can pick it up, throw me an offer.
