Default smoked during smog test (2500 rpm in neutral). Also oil on valve cover breather.

I failed my smog test because of a visible smoke during the 2500 rpm test (for 5 minutes in neutral). It wasn't very thick smoke. It doesn't burn an abmormal amount of oil during normal or hard driving and I haven't seen this smoke before. I also noticed some pretty fresh oil on the passenger valve cover breather near the pcv connection. Can these two be related? Any ideas for a diagnoses? I'll check my pcv system today, but could that allow some oil into the exhaust and cause a little smoke? Any other ideas. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
