Headlights stopped working

I stopped at a rest stop for about 5 minutes the other night and when I came back out my headlights/fog lights stopped working. The dash lights come on, the blinkers and the high beams work just fine. I checked the fuses and the relays and they're all fine. The relays aren't switching when I click from hight to low beams so I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere before the relays. Anyone ever hear of a problem like this?

I forgot to mention it's a 2001 RS 2.5

I would guess the problem is with the combination light switch. If you didn't check the fuses in the panel under the hood then check them also.

Word.....I'm having the same problem. I was driving home from work and made a pit stop. When I got back in the car, only the high beams worked. I just replaced my low beam bulbs with Silver Stars 3 months ago too.

It could just be the bulbs. Silverstars are known to not last very long, and it's entirely possible that they both burned out at the same time. It's also possible that one had already burned out and you didn't notice it until the other one went too.
If you have your old bulbs and they were good when removed, try those.

Just came in from checking the bulbs (where I managed to break the metal clip that keeps the spring in place on the passenger headlight....D'OH!) and I swapped in the one good stocker I still had.....no go. FIlament on the SilverStars looked beautiful. I checked all lighting related fuses under the hood and in the car and all were good. Also did the DRL disable mod just to make sure the DRL module wasn't bad. I guess it's either the combination switch or some other mystery issue. Damn!

The problem may be with the DRL relay. Do the daytime running lights work? The info for a '04 WRX shows that a green/red wire ties to the relay from the light switch that should turn on the relay by making a ground connnection. The switching contacts of the relay should then connect a yellow/red wire on the same relay to ground and turn on the low beam lights. The problem may also be within a connection of the yellow red wire near the lights. You should be able to ground the y/r wire manually and turn on the lights if you want to test it.

Well it's in the dealers hands now.....I hope this might be covered under my Subaru Extra Gold warranty.....I would like to get something for my money....LOL!

I would think it will be covered unless you did something that caused the trouble.

i had the same problem in my 240, i retroed an oem hid system in it tho, but i had to rewire my signal wire from the steering column to the ballast bcause the wire was fried. we found out it was fried when he did a conductivity test on the wire if its getting signal? dont know for sure hes the mechanic.
