Default Tightening oil filter

When you tighten the oil filter, is it "OK" to just tighten it with your hands. Meaning, making sure it is snug. Without using any tool??

you are not suppose to use a tool when tightening. after the filter gasket makes the slightest contact with the base after screwing it down, then turn 3/4 to 1 turn more and your set

You should NEVER need a tool to tighten it, even if you are a noodley armed 97 pounder... Roamrex has it correct, 1 turn after it makes contact is all you need. If you are used to cranking it down this will seem really odd, but the rubber gasket on the filter will swell when in contact with oil, so even though it feels a little loose now, it will soon tighten up, sometimes ALOT.

its ok and its the way your supposed to do it.

99% of people tighten there oil filters too tight out of paranioa. Then they curse themselves when they need to remove it.

I will be over tightening mine by hand for some time to come.
After finding i burned a hamburger size puddle of oil on my downpipe, and this was just from dropplets continually getting in the down draft pelting the Dp after going WOT several times.
