Maybe try a little warm soapy water and a soft brush?

I think I have the same problem. There is this nickel-sized perfect circle spot of some adhesive residue right above the stereo, like the previous owner had some electronic device affixed there that he didn't wanna part with when he sold the car. I've tried just a moist towel, and those Armor-All dashboard wipe type deals on it, no luck.
