Default Anyone here running MFactory gears?

I was reading on the MFactory gears GB about 2nd gear needing to be "shaved" for some year Subarus. Does anyone have any other information on this?

Bump cause i want to know also. Feedback from people actually running them and how much power there putting down.

I would be PISSED if i spent 3 grand on my tranny to just break a gear.

The gearset is not bulletproof and it is all in the way you drive. I hear from DS1motorsports that they are a pretty solid gearset.

Maybe I read it wrong.

Seems like a very promising gear set, because I'm paying $2500 for gears, or am not getting gears at all. I'm not paying 2 Miatas for a set of PPG, no matter their strength. A set of gears like MFactory is basically the difference between me keeping my WRX and selling it--not to mention the close-ratios. Very promising.

I agree with you completely.

No you read it right. I thinks its designed for the 93-98 or something. You have to "shave" a few mm of 2nd.

May just have to wait until summer when the HELIX is put out.

I can't spend 6k on a tranny when the car is worth 10.
But, i can't run 350wheel for much longer on a 02 tranny either.

A guy in town here is getting a set next week. He called who ever sells them and asked how many they had sold and oddly the answer was none. He is running a VF43 on a 07 WRX so they should hold up to the power he plans on laying down, around 350ish.

At 1/3 the cost of a PPG set, I do wonder why more people haven't bought them, considering that the overwhelming majority of WRX owners will NEVER go above 400WHP/TQ which is the expected rating.

Although, if you consider the total number of people on the forums/broken tranny ratio, I still say the Subaru transmission isn't nearly that bad. I also think that ratio has to do with people overestimating the WHP/TQ they lay down and a glorification of any transmission failures. Oddly, alot of the transmission failures are on relatively stock cars (At least one in town here), so I chalk at least 50% of transmission failures directly up to bad drivers.

I'll make sure he posts in the Trans/Driveline forums once they are installed. I'm sure I'll get behind the wheel and go for a spin myself and lay my own opinion down.

Thanks for the info.

I wonder if DS1 or other shop will "shave" the gears for you during the install, and what the total bill would be, gears and install included.

Guess I could call them.

Both DS1 Motorsports and Andrewtech are Official Installers, and will make any modifications necessary for the gearset to install/function flawlessly on a 99+ transmission. It is a very minor "operation".

Regarding the topic of this thread, again, both DS1 Motorsports and Andrewtech have ran them flawlessly on their sponsored Rally Cars as well as personal/road cars. The reason why you won't hear much feedback on them on NASIOC yet is because everyone is in the same situation as you are i.e Waiting for other peoples feedback first before taking the plunge.

Both Official Installers can offer you their advice/recommendations regarding the gearset if you contact them directly, and I believe they will agree with me when I say that we have possibly the best value "road race" gearset for the majority of the general wrx population (i.e that excludes the 1320'ers)
