so is this 2.5 head gasket thing under control?

as far as i can tell 2002 was the last year for defective head gaskets on the 2.5 NA engine.

i'm looking at a 2005 impreza outback sport with a 2.5 tommorrow. i may very well buy it.

is it gonna blow up?

They don't really explode. The headgaskets usually get sucked in while engine braking and the cylinder walls are quick to follow resulting in catastrophic powertrain failure.
