Default We took the Time Attack car to the drag strip.

We've always wondered how our Time Attack L would do at the drag strip and this weekend we finally got the chance to do a couple of runs, unfortunately we had a fairly busy shop schedule on Saturday so we didn't get to the track until late which meant we only got 3 runs.

We ran the car in it's typical Time Attack trim with Wing, Splitter, -4 camber etc all in place. We did run our full boost map which we reserve for the final timed session typically in Time Attacks.

Something else to mention is that our driver Gary Sheehan had never previously driven the car nor ever driven at a drag strip.

Our Times from first run to last are as follows.

12.155 @ 126.934
11.357 @ 129.102
11.069 @ 132.262

The first run we didn't launch the car as we really had no idea what to expect and we wanted to Gary a chance to feel the car out. The second run he had a hard time with the 2-3 shift.

I have posted the time slips below.

Wow, that's some good stuff. The car easily has 10's in it with some more practice, if you felt like bothering. You picked up almost 32 mph in the back half on the middle slip, but only 25-27 on the other two. It looks to me like the car has quite a bit more in it...

What were you up against on the 2nd and 3rd runs? That 3rd run opponent's timeslip is amazing. Especially the 60' and front half...

Great times! If the 60ft was a bit lower, this car would be in the 10's. Not bad for a car set up for TA.

PS. What was next to you guys in that last run? That thing was moving.

That was some old Nova and yea it was flying, I think Gary remarked that he had never been walked by such a margin on a straight away

There was some really fast and cool stuff there, from the high 7's Camero's to the crazy dude on a Quad that ran 14.1..

for the guys first time in the car, thats set up with -4 camber on it, getting a 1.7 60' on his 3rd pass is huge.

I'd like to tip my hat at the constant improvement from slip 1 to slip 3. and yeah if you set up the car for the strip, it definately has 10's in it.

Those numbers are huge!! 132mph shows what the car really has in it- and to be able to do that for a whole lap instead of just 10 seconds at a time shows just how strong the build really is. Congrats guys!

I've always been more into drag racing than any other form of racing. So to me to have a car than can run 10's and handle that well is very cool.

NIce times and nice driving from gary! If the car was setup for Drag racing it would have run in the mid 10's with some practice. Hell of a car!

Great times! Congrats to Mike and Gary. That car is definately moving!

Mike, I know you said you really pushed the tune for this drag racing outing. How much boost did you end up running and on what fuel? Got any power figures? I'm curious how much power it takes to get a 2800lb car to trap 133mph.

Thanks
-- Ed

Actually due to our late arrival we never got a chance to run the crazy drag map we intended to try after a couple of run.

Boost for all 3 runs was 28psi running Sunoco Maximal.

Using a cheesy online calculator with values of 2800lbs and 133 mph, it works out to about 520-ish at the wheels. If 2800 is w/o driver, then it's closer to 550hp. Obviously the GST guys are a little skittish about giving up what their power numbers actually are, but trap speeds don't lie.

Car weighs roughly 2850lbs with driver and on the map used was around 470whp on our dyno.

One clean pass was all that was needed to run the "L" into the 10s. Missed a shift, a little stutter step during the launch but overall, Gary did an outstanding job! First time out in the "L" and i doubt he's been at a drag strip before this weekend. haha

Mike and the crew built a helluva Monster! Hat's off to you guys. Can't wait when she's back up 100%! I think your competition is loosing sleep mate!

Congrats to Mike, Gary and boys at GST!

Someone barely broke 300 on GST's dyno and trapped 116.121 too. How's that for a curve ball for you calculator?

Earl,

Thanks again for all of the pointers! Heck, I didn't even how staging lights worked until you walked me through it.

Now that I've got 3/4 of a mile of driving experience in the car, I'm sure I could get it into the 10s!

It was my pleasure sir!

If there was a 4th pass that night, I KNOW you would've done 10s.

What an accomplishment. It took most of us years to crack into the 12s. You're doing 10 in less than a mile's worth of driving in about an hour and a half! hahaha.

You're now my new super hero! (it was Mike before) LOL

It's not me, it's all car. I'm still the main thing holding this car back.
