Default hooray. new system in the works!

so, here it goes. it has begun. after realizing i cannot fit (8) eclipse sw4200 10 inch subs. im ordering (4) kicker L5 12's on friday. unfortunately the came out to be a little more expensive than i hoped (105 a piece :P ) if im not mistaken ill need to order the dual 4 ohm coils right?

the box is going to be sealed with the subs being mounted inverted due to mounting depth issues. the 4 channel will be hidden under the cover plate.

4 channel = mtx ta3404, possibly to be upgraded to something with a little more power.
mono amp = kicker zx1500.1, possibly to be swapped out for the zx2500.1 down the line.

im excited

Yes, you'll need the dual-4s homie. I'm still a little curious why the L5s, 3 L7s would be just about the same volume, but then again you wouldn't get QUITE the same power at 2.66 as you would at 2.00

Let us know how it turns out!

you know exactly why i want 4 subs. cuz lyke omg i can haz moar subz. its just kinda one of those, if i can, whynot? im just waiting on the carpet to come from parts express and i need to do another 2 layers or so on the glassing.

it looks like a big booger in my opinion

I know, that's what I mean. 3 L7s would be very close in volume to 4 L5s, but either way you will be happy .

So what are you gonna do under the hood to get that heavy-ass brick moving now?

about 8 layers. but i may do 7, ive been using more resin than i usually do because its been a while since i did any glassing. plus im still not that good at it, so then the matt doesnt do what i want it to; i kinda drown it in resin.

It's going to be to loud for the body structure, I've SEEN peoples cars, that have ripped the trunk lock from the trunk before doing similar... I'm figuring this will be no different

Looks GREAT man, to bad for your poor trunk space though...lol...

I gotta ask, do you have any bracing inside the box, between the woofers? If not you really should, that thing has got to flex like a somabich..

A good 1" dowl right in the center would help a lot..

Looks good but I would try to hide the wires a little better, they look like they're just dangling there and detract from the rest of the clean area...

What wiring problem are you having? You have 4 dual 4 ohm right? Did you wire them all up in parallel? That would cause a .5 ohm load - the amp can only do 1 ohm right? If you did each sub in series between the coils and then in parallel with each other you'd have a 2 ohm load...

i dont know exactly what happened, but everything wasnt wired in all parallel, but for some reason it was still coming out to .5 ohms, got it all taken care of though. its pretty loud, i was expecting a little louder, but it sounds pretty clean; which i wasnt expecting.

and..no bracing inside the box...i thought about it, but that bump where the spare tire usually screws into makes a very awkwardly shaped surface, so bracing was really hard to do.

and with so many wires going between the subs, its kinda hard to hide them. i couldnt come up with anything creative.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the hump....

are you using the hump to hold the box down? If I envision your box in the first pic, the centerline falls somewhere forward of the hump

nope, nothing is holding the box down. doesnt really need it, ive built a couple of these spare tire sub boxes, havent had a problem with them trying to escape.

but ill think about the whole bracing thing. i just have no free time for aynthing right now. i still havent re-run my 4 channel wires so my interiors are still all fudged up
