Default Upgraded sound package questions

How do the upgraded speakers compare to an 80 dollar pair of speakers you can buy from pioneer or someone like that??

ARe they similar or only a little worse (since both would be plastic cones)

Hope that makes sense...

The $80 speakers from pioneer or the likes will be about 10x better than the upgraded subaru ones.

Assuming I get the correct size aftermarket speakers, does the stock CD player have enough power for them to work??

Yes for the basics. The stock HU is not high-powered, so for louder undistorted listening, it would be useful to add at least a small amp. However, you don't have to do that at first -- put in new speakers, then think about possible HU upgrade/new amp.

As long as you aren't looking at a pair of $200+ components that may need a lot of power to really get moving, you should be fine. Most aftermarket spkrs in the $100- range are designed to work with low power from a stock or aftermarket head unit. When you go to more $$$ spkrs like a $400 component set by A/D/S/, they designed the spkr assuming you will be putting more power on them. This means they will sound better with an extra amp.

The stock upgrades are not as good as a reputable brand that costs the same price. Look at boston acoustic, pioneer, cerwin vega, polk and other brands and find the one that sounds best with your music. and don't be fooled into buying a three-way coax spkr because it has extra tweeters, just look for a normal two-way coax spkr...
