Default Looking at a 2005 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited, advice??

My fiancee is tired of driving her Blazer and is looking to trade it in. She wants a fast car and was looking at a WRX since I have one and she wants a car that is quick too.

Since I already have a WRX I suggested a turbocharged Legacy since she liked the look of it already, but was not aware of it being turbo charged.

I found a 2005 Legacy 2.5 GT Limited with 51,XXX for $19,998. Its a 5 speed.

Any common issues with the car??? i.e. wrx and 04 sti's have common issues with transmission rattle on deceleration.

Thoughts, tips, advice, suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advanced.

There are lots of them, but they usually own pre-05 models.

I'm shopping for exactly the same car as you, 05 gt limited. For starters i can tell you right away that car is worth 15-16k. I picked up an 05 gt limited with 12k miles for 16390 from a dealership the other day but it had a leaking trunk so i returned it. Not aware of any model specific issues.

you need to keep in mind where you are located and pricing for Subaru's vs where he is located.

However, that seems kinda high for an 05 5MT with that many miles. My 05 5EAT shows NADA value to be $21K retail and $18.5K trade with 48K miles. 5MT will have a lower blue book value than AT, even if there is more of a demand for 5MT limited. Remember, the 05+ LGT have turbo's which mean you need to know who had the car and how it was driven. Just like buying a used WRX/STI, you could be buying a potential money pit.

if you're really interested in finding out more on 05+ LGT, I suggest doing more research on legacygt.com forums as there is a lot more info regarding common issues. Main thing, keep an eye out for modded/demodded cars. nothing wrong with buying a modded/demodded car as long as it's been done right.

good luck with your searching.

Default Nice Selection...

Wife has an '05 LGT Ltd (AT). Even with the AT it's so much more fun to drive than my Baja NA. Along with all the routine items, check tires and brakes. The stock tires are shall we say, less than ideal and if pads/rotors are worn, you could use the info to negotiate a better price and then upgrade yourself, or get the dealer to fix it (depending on your preference). Good luck.

I'm in new york city, how much more expensive can it get? The reason these cars are going for dirt cheap now is because since gas is $4 a gallon, no one is buying these gas guzzlers. Perfect time to snap one up.

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. We talked to the dealer over the phone and got the price down to 17,9xx w/o the trade in. Is that a better price?? maybe we can get it down to 17 flat if we go there.

The only hang up right now is that we owe on the Blazer and it will be an upside down figure when we trade in. We looked around and this is the cheapest we've found so far. Most places are selling them for 20-22k and those are LGT with around 20-30k miles on them. And my fiancee likes that there is a moonroof on it.

If we sale the Blazer , it blue books at 7k and we owe about 7k. Buying that car was a mistake.

Good point. These car's are price around here, and it's hard to find a private seller.

I bought an '05 Legacy GT Wagon 5MT with 29K miles for $16,500. Had to spend $300 for a one way flight from Austin TX to Utah, but it was well worth it. The car is a blast to drive and the power feels close to what my '04 STi was. I get ~ 21 mpg in combined city/hwy driving, only ~ 24 on the hwy. The car shines on the highway, comfortable, fast and always in boost (hence low hwy mpg). It is very refined comparing to a WRX/STi .

I think you missed the point. It isn't about the overall cost of living for your location, it is about the demand (and/or scarcity) for Subarus. The West Coast traditionally has more of a demand, thus a higher price tag. Obviously this isn't a hard and fast rule, but it is usually applicable.

My Mom had an 05 LGT AT and it was a pretty fun car to drive. Really nothing came up to look out for while she owned it, but I would suggest posting up over on www.legacygt.com

good luck
