from what i've found with towing heavy loads behind the wrx is that even the crappy stock braking system has WAY more than enough capability, the problem is you don't have enough weight and traction in the tow vehicle. The trailer will EASILY slide the car in an emergency stop, and the trailer doesn't really care what braking system you are running. That is where trailer brakes save your bacon.

My previous jetboat was roughly 1200 pounds ready to go, current one is 1700. It made a HUGE difference, more than I would have expected. The most I've towed was somewhere around 2200-2500 pounds behind the wrx. 4 miles, nothing over 30 mph. It was amazing how easily the trailer could push the car when you slowed down, even at a relatively slow speed.

I think the coilovers might help me a lot with that. It doesn't transfer weight nearly as much as as stock suspension. So I don't get the nosedive when and lockup when braking. When the trailer was hooked up, the back of the car didn't even drop.

Trailer brakes are a great idea though. Subaru doesn't recomend them for no reason.
