Post Epinions- "the WRX is as ugly as a dead moose's butt" A CALL TO ARMS

There is a HORRID review of the WRX (incorrectly placed under reviews for the 2001 Impreza 2.5RS) on Epinions. I wouldnt normally care but apparently there are morons out there who believe what other people say on the internet. We dont want people to read such crap as this:
Quote:
As a result of my interest, I did some research on the new car and managed to take a peak at a few. Nope, I haven't driven it...
now take a "peak" at this:
Quote:
the Japanese version of the same car punches more HP and this is the reason why I am not overly impressed by the performance. Reasons for the HP reduction on the US version? I can't think of any, unless Subaru was deluded into believing that we just don't care. Anyhow, looking deeper into the specs, I found that the car weights about 3k of lbs. The torque is a bit low for so much HP -- a decent 217ft/lbs at 4k RPM.
3k of lbs?!? Note: this person has an EXCELLENT rating on the site and has written 180 reviews. People might actually think he knows what he is talking about!!
Quote:
As upsetting as it is, I am only slightly impressed with the US model Imprezza. Even with the turbo on its 2 liter engine (its a horizontally opposed 4 banger) the car boasts 227HP, which is a good number on a 4-door that costs less then 30k.
Whats upsetting about it??! Even with the turbo it boats 227hp? what did you expect, the turbo to SLOW IT DOWN?!!?! Imprezza?!?! ?
http://www.epinions.com/content_12026416772

Please go hurt him. Somehow. Productively and politely if you must, but somehow please hurt him.

(I know you scooby types, you all like to be polite and help people and nuture things and save baby birds on your camping trips while you wash the oil off of baby seals, and thats great, but could you roll up a copy of your Road and Track and WHACK HIM UPSIDE THE HEAD? JUST THIS ONCE?!)

Well, aside from the facts that:
 • He doesn't know the difference between 4WD and AWD.
 • He doesn't appear to know that there's more than one model of Impreza.
 • His grammar and spelling are terrible.
 • He's never actually driven a WRX or seen one in person.
 • He doesn't understand the differences between emissions standards in Japan and USA.

I didn't see anything overtly false. He's an idiot, but at least most of his facts are straight. You can complain about his opinions, but they are just opinions. Is it really worth the trouble to try and change them?

Good point. He could be overseas, which would also explain his spelling and grammar problems. It is interesting to note, however, that he uses the two terms interchangeably. He makes alot of other mistakes, so I prefer to consider him an idiot

Um, guys, there's a reason why this car is a CULT car.

Do you really want everyone and their mother trying to buy one? Think of what happens to the prices when demand goes through the roof?

And if you see them as often as a Civic... well, I personally like being unidentifieable in my RS.

Yay to the idiot who scares away people from our precious supply of WRX's.

Well, there is a lot of murk surrounding AWD/4WD. Many people use them interchangeably, and many car companies now tout full-time 4WD.

There is no mechanical difference between the two, other than systems now called 4wd are generally part-time, and systems called Awd are generally full-time.

Once they are engaged, there is no difference.

I don't really give a rip what anyone else thinks about my car. Okay...a little bit, but I know I have a great car, and if you don't then you'll just be that more surprised when you're choking on the dust trail that I've left you in.

Being canadian, I've seen a dead moose before, and their butts look nothing like my car.

I think someone should email this guy a pic of a dead moose butt so he knows for future reference.

To be honest, the WRX is ugly, and believe me as an owner of one I am being very objective about it. I didn't buy the car for looks, if I did I would have opted for an Audi, BMW or even the new Z. I think my 96 240sx looks better then the Subaru. The real attractive selling point for the WRX is it's performance and civility, or should I say the perfect combination of the two. I could get a Maxima for the same amount of money and get much more room with about the same HP ratings, but it lacks that distict personality of "I am just F#$king different!" Plus the Maxima does not have a 0-60 time of 6 seconds. (I think car and driver rated the WRX at 5.7 seconds?)

I think he is right about the looks, but for someone who has not even driven the car and feel its performance has any right to say that car is not all its hyped up to be. Not too many 6 second rally-high performance-4 door sedans out there that could take your kids to school, go get grocery and head up to the mountains during a snow storm and get pass chain inspection. We know what's up.

I am bashing and always will bash those who have no clue what they are talking about but stil try to sound smart ass.

I thought AWD was when you have the power equally sent to all the lateral camshafts resulting in dynamic torque allocation, wheras 4WD was only on US made trucks with a locking positronic sequential gearbox made of magnesium with the oxygen sensor placed ABOVE the cat track disc pump? Unless of course the oxygen sensor is placed in the ECU fuel chamber then of course youve got the patented Mercedes 4MATIC on your hands... now youre playing with fire... DONT GET BURNED!!!11@@!! FROM THE HOTNESS!!!

GEEEZ! Calm down WRX guys. No one is saying that the WRX is not fast. No one is saying that it isn't different nor is anyone saying that the car is impractical. A lot of you guys get REALLY defensive when someone comments unfavorably about the looks of your car. I don't like it. Big f'n whoop. I like looks of my 2001 RS. Guess what, a lot of people don't! Who gives a crap. I don't. What IS annoying is when people go off the handle and start preaching and getting nasty. Get over it. It's a car, (one that I like quite a bit mind you) not a religion. Hell I think it's stupid when people get all preachy and it IS a religion.
BTW: you aren't going to do your cause any good when you have 1 opinion to your name and you go there and flame someone with over 100.

Cool

rofl... hehe

the guy is a Grade A choice cut dips**t. I don't know how someone can review a car without even driving in. Prolly drives a Gremlin, or some rusty K car.

AWD and 4WD are the same, the only "difference" is AWD usually uses LSDs to transfer power, where 4WD hubs are locked. That's not always true tho, there are 4WD cars that use "AWD technology."

err, no.

Whether or not the hubs are locked is independent from the way power is distributed. Locking hubs are used to maximize fuel economy when in 2wd mode, and are slightly more reliable than switch-on-the-fly systems.

One of the traditional differences between 4wd and Awd was that Awd used a center differential, and 4wd used a transfer case, to split power front/rear.

Even that is not true, anymore. Just about every AWD and 4WD is different, and every mfg mixed components to match their goals. I think it's simply boiled down to marketing - AWD has connotations of speed and handling, 4WD has connotations of durability and power. It's all just marketing spin, now.

Gavin, you said what I was thinking. Trasfercase, couldn't think of the name, so I just put locking hubs.

ugly, huh? That's strange, I had no less than 5 people come up to me today when I was getting my car waxed and tell me how good it looked. One of them was driving a 530I and he kept saying how nice my car was. You know what else is strange? I was parked next to a very, very nice IS300, and NO ONE even looked at it while mine was there.

You may think the WRX is ugly, but not everyone does.

-Nathan

Boy does WR blue look good with a quality wax job on it!

Have you read some of his other, rather insightful, stuff?
Quote:
One main advice professionals give you is not to be decided on a specific model / color of car. This obviously minimalizes your search, and you start looking for a price rather than a model
I've been going about this ALL wrong... I thought you were supposed to pick what you wanted and then go find the best price! >sigh<

He's a turd. If you want your opinion of his review to stick around, you have to join. I joined and gave my opinion.

He reviewed the US 2002 Impreza under the 2001 Impreza subject. That was his first mistake...

Then he "paid" $21000 for the WRX... I'd like to know where he did that.

What a tool.

First of all, adding an entire cat-back system is a big waste if you already have an exhaust extension that is about 2 1/4 inches wide in diameter. Cat-Back stands for 'from catalytic converters to the back of the car'. In simple words, its just mufflers and pipes. Your exhaust already has the pipes, and making the exhaust even bigger than what is needed is a waste of money and can even slow you down.
Quote:
Regardless, you can spend around 2k on intake and exhaust, and all you will get is going to be about 100HP.
I'd like to see a CAI and cat-back give you 100hp.

And that's just a sample.

And here's one for you Turbo guys...
Quote:
Turbocharger is also the same thing as a Supercharger, except one takes the air from the exhaust while the other one takes it from the engine area

Sky: "join epinions, and post all this up in a review...you'll make about 5 bucks."

That explains it. Epinions is a racket. They pay you $0.01 for every page-view of your reviews. This fellow has written 181 reviews about things he knows little about for one reason: $$$.

So, if all 6000+ I-Club members join Epinions and give him an untrustworthy rating, his pageviews, and thus income, will decline.
