I say put suspension, exhaust, and other fairly cheap power adders and little goodies that you may like and work with that for a while until you can save up enough for a WRX swap. This is what I personally plan on doing on a 98-01'.

I'm loving my 170hp 2.5i. The throttle response is definitely lagging when you let off the gas then back on. I assume this is to protect the gears but it is kind of annoying. When the injectors start spraying there is no lack of power in the low end. Car moves nicely between 3500-5k.

The issues lie with suspension and tires for sure. I'm gonna snag the sti pink springs and get some sway bars and bushings. Also going to get some decent wheels and summer tires, as well as some better all seasons on the winter steelies than stock as they SUCK.

It will be like driving a whole new car once all that is on...Can't wait for the awesome grip with summer tires.
This is probably similar to how you could setup your new ride, and it actually will only cost about $1000 for all the suspension stuff with labor, and whatever my wheels and tires cost.

I agree with ejicon, get the best performance tyre you can afford (within reason) that would be the first Mod. Then work on the understeer issue (suspension) this will give you more enjoyment with your wheels.

it seems that most are saying to go with the suspension route first... i have had mt RS for a year and a half and im starting to look at mods for it. So if we go suspension first... what and where??

also does the '05 RS have a governor cuz i have heard both answers and is it something you remove when looking at performance???

Thanks

track time and/or tires. then suspension.

as for power mods...your forester probably had the same potential as the RS but enjoy nonetheless.

No governor on the 06 than I know of, probably the same for the 05. If there is one, you sure aren't going to hit it in stock form.

20-25whp more than stock is not even CLOSE to 200whp. It's more like 150.
200whp, on the other hand, still won't take $11k more. Close perhaps, but you'll still be faster than a 200whp turbo car if you do it right. It's all about area under the curve.

well if it does have a governor, which i dont think it does, it is definitely higher than 125 mph... lol

and as irresponsible as some people may think that is, drive on 95 either to or from vegas, and you'll understand...

also, look at the threads of note in the na powertrain forum, definitely all of the info you want is in that thread.

just stick with autoxing and suspension mods... i went from a 03 wrx stg 2 to a 00 2.5RS and the power just aint there and aint never gonna be there without a swap. my focus is purely susp and tracking it. not BIG HP. if i wanted big hp i would have gotten a foxbody or camaro.

If you must do something, it is probably due for new tires, so get something nice when you replace them. Auto-x it in stock class and really learn how to get the most out of the car.

this is simple

adding more than ~20-25whp takes opening the engine and that is $$$ unless you do the work yourself

making 200 na whp costs a LOT more
like the cost of the car
there have been a couple guys that have documented their na builds and when one guy hit the $11k mark in the motor and didnt even have 250hp
he quit

maybe i wasnt clear or you have rocks in your head

you obviously are one of those na fools that will just NEVER understand simple physics and the the dynamics of internal combustion engines

i am not so encumbered with your foolishness

this is a dead horse that YOU are beating

my '02 wrx had 200+whp with NO lag with JUST an mbc

go play with your cams and heads and get back to me when you hit 250whp and 315whtq(about what my 06 makes on the stock turbo) with any na subaru 4 cyl

and tell me how much it cost

....hell

hit 220 and tell me how much THAT cost

ill wait

a NA 200whp car can be faster than a 200whp turbo'd car, but too bad you'd have to spend crap loads to get there, while turbo'd cars are just making powers easily. you spend 11k to make X amount of power, turbo's dont even have to spend 11k to make the car insane fast.
