Default Reverse lights remain on

04 WRX
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Sometimes when I put the car into reverse, the reverse lights stay on even after I have taken it out of reverse. This phenomena seems to happen randomly. But I have gotten pulled over at night while driving and the reverse lights were on and the Cop told me I had 2 weeks to fix the problem. Took the car to my mechanic, who drove it, put the car in reverse many times, and found nothing wrong. Really weird issue and obviously something electrical. My next stop is the local Subaru dealer but I was wondering if anyone might know what sort of malfunction I am experiencing. Thanks.

bad reverse switch in the transmission almost definitely. Not a terribly hard fix.

I agree. Have the reverse switch replaced.

I assume replacing the switch fixed the problem? Just wanted to verify. I got popped tonight for the same thing, didn't know it was even an issue. They let me off with a warning but not before they released the drug dogs
