Default My Time Attack/ Lap Battle STI

So, I have been building my 05 Time Attack/Lap Battle STI and it's almost to somewhat up to where I want it. The only left to do is a custom roll cage which will be installed by the mid of this month.

I just want to let my New Englander friends that I know back home my progress of my new track advantage. I'll be back there soon battling the East tracks.

The pictures below are from Miller Motorsports Park in Utah for the 1st local Time Attack event LapBattle.com and I'm about .5 - .6 second behind the leader.

Please let me know what you guys think of my car? Any suggestion(s) for me to go faster and better lap time would be greatly appreciated.

Here's more pictures of the lap battle when I was on the track I got from someone who took them. I hope you guys like it.

The wheels are Enkei NT-03+m in 18x9.5 40mm offset with 10mm spacers in front. Tires are Hooiser R3S05 275/35/18. Lots of fender pulling and rolling... hahaha

WOW…that looks awsome…there are a few things that I can come up with that might be a good idea but since I am not an expert someone else may want to say yes or no…
1 – CF hood and trunk as well as Rear Spoiler.
2 – Rear Vortex generator. I know the one from the ’07 STi did not do much but one like the Evo has is rumored to help out a bit.
3 – Rear diffuser.

Those are good advise, but I think the best thing is to modify the driver .

I love to but I'm still in Utah right now and I don't think I can make that far yet. I will be moving back to Boston by mid-August so I'll see you guys for sure out there.

Just 18G, that's it. Not much into power mods. However, I have spend tons into doing suspension set up like camber, alignment, tire pressure etc... and mostly focus on driving techniques.

Sometime, I do wish to go back to less power RWD cars such as spec miata's, spec BMW E30's and spec 944's. This is where you learn more on driving and suspension set up then the new technology of the car to help you go faster.

1 - CF hood won't help your weight but may help engine temp/air flow in the engine bay. I have the Seibon CWII and I can see the heat just flowing out the side vents.
CF trunk was going to be my #1 suggestion. I went from the STi trunk/spoiler to CF trunk and CF S202 (replica) spoiler and I lost a lot of weight.

2 - Vortex generator will help with downforce on the back. When I put mine on I did notice a difference. I went from CF wingless to CF wingless w/ CF vortex and then put the S202 on.
If you want help finding a CF vortex for a good price send me a PM and I'll connect you with the guy I bought mine from.

While we're on the subject of carbon fiber ..... get an HJC carbon fiber helmet. I ride a motorcycle and everyone I know - that rides - is jealous when they feel how light my helmet is compared to theirs. It will make you a little more comfortable.

No, I don't think so. I want to get as much of fastest time as I can with working mainly on the suspension and driving technique.

Power is the very last thing I want to focus on. I want to be the best driver as much as I can and that's my main focus.

+1 on the E30! I'm looking to get one soon! The new miata mx-5 is by far the slowest car I've ever driven.

I love the orange wheels on the black, looks sick!

18g seems more of an auto-x turbo than a time attack turbo. better than stock I guess.
Have you ever taken a driving class?

Those wheels look sick!!! I have always wanted a black car with orange wheels. I wanted to do that when I had my black 04. Is that the Honda CBR orange?

No aftermarket oil cooler? those holes you have in front bumper usually go well with aftermarket oil cooler.

How did you make those holes in the bumper by the way?

Time attack / lap battle? Is this different from a Time Trial, or is it just what the kids are calling it these days?

18G is good enough for me as I want to focus on learning driving techniques and race car set up. So, power is not my main concern as much as handling.

I have somewhat taken some driving lessons but mostly I have done good amount of track days.

This car is more of a test bed for me and to learn race car set up. In another word, it's my learning vehicle. I'm planning to go wheel to wheel racing next year with NASA's spec e30 series and hopefully, into formula open wheel cars.

No, since I can't buy a Porsche GT3 RS, I make my own version of it.

A Mocal oil cooler is going on in few weeks. I have it here in front on my right now.

I use a 1-1/4" hole saw cutter to drill the holes. It helps out the radiator cooling.

Yes, it's called Time Attack for most people but still being called Time Trial by NASA.

Here's a good detail of the term Time Attack.

A custom roll cage is going in by middle of this month. Photos will be added once the cage is installed.

We look forward to seeing another Suby in Club Of Miatas. As echo'd by others, schools, schools, schools. If you're already put into groups who don't get instructors, snag one anyways and ask if they can give you a few pointers. I can't think of many people who I have not been able to give solid advice on how to reduce their lap time. (except KFoote and Bill Prout). If there's a classroom session going on and you're not on the track, go to it even if you're not required to. I still do myself when I have a light load of students. For those of us not thanking our Pennzoil/ChevroBuick/Verizon/BudLight/Firestone/Westbank/Rallydecalsdotcom team for the win every weekend before collecting our $5M check and getting sprinkled with supermodels.......we're amatures and can always learn something.

(no autographs, please)
