Default BMW to use 4-cylinder in 1-Series, next 7-Series to come in hybrid

Quote:

In a recent interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, BMW CEO said that the brand will be using the four-cylinder engine it produces jointly with PSA in its BMW branded cars. According to a report, BMW had originally planned to use the four-cylinder engine only in its MINI lineup.
The future generation of BMW 1-Series will be using the four-cylinder engine.

Reithofer also briefly mentioned that the next-generation of the BMW 7-Series will be fitted with a hybrid engine. We expect more details when the full interview is released

7 looks slightly better. curious how hybrid will compare with the diesel options.

Writing is a bit confusing, I assume it is saying the mini's 4-banger will be placed in the 1-series, since the 1 is available with four pots already.

I'd like to see a more simple 4-cylinder BMW over here. Just make the motor better than that 1.8 dog that they used to peddle (BMW, it's called revs. why could your V8 rev, but not your 4?)

Those are 2 different cars. What's the dealio I hope the 7 looks more like the 2nd one since that has more CS styling cues.

Also, I think ALL 7's should have hybrid power. Not as an option, but as standard. The 7 is a large, expensive sedan with probably a huge mark-up... that should make it the perfect candidate for hybrid technology... lots of room to store batteries, and a high enough profit margin to hide the extra cost. And with BMW working with GM on hybrid technology, this could be a very intersting system (since it should be the same as the one they use in the Tahoe which has gotten good reviews).
