I don't spell well

Default LC-1 Wideband install - No serial port on my comp ?

So the instructions say that you need to connect the output cable of the lc-1 to the input cable on the serial cable, then connect the serial cable to your computer.

Only trouble is my laptop is a newer brand and doesn't have a serial out... I do have a bunch usb ports though.

Is there any way to connect it through a usb port?

You can buy a generic serial to usb adapter for about $15. Works like a damn.

^ cool, is it going to give me any problems as far as drivers go? Will the LC-1 software recognize the device?

I ordered a $4 adapter shipped from hong kong... seemed like a better option to the $40 circuit city thing

from what I can tell, not all adaptors will work. I dont know how the LC-1 is with those things, but I remember when the accessport was serial, it didnt always work. So be wary of the $4 chinese versions.

I had issues with the driver on mine. It only worked sometimes. Every time it quit working I would reinstall the driver and it would work for a little while then quit again. It will still need to have a com port assigned which what I think was the problem with mine. Give it a shot, but like they said be weary of the cheapo.
