Default Sigh, i knew it had to happen

Well, got the car back from Westboro on Friday. They put in a new radiator for a leaking seam on the original. New injectors on cyl 1 and 3 to hopefully stop all these CEL probs. Less then 200km since i picked it up and its back at the shop tonite. I tried to avoid a sideswipe from a driver failing to check his blind-spot and planted the WRX hard into a curb. Blew out the front driver's side tire. Steel winter rim on that side has a major dent in it (garbage now) Rear driver's side rim has a cosmetic dent in it, but im not sure if the Nokian Hakka 1 is ok or not. Might be just scuffed. Now the bad news. Front underspoiler (where the fogs are housed) is cracked and broken in 2 places (garbage), side skirt 3/4 off(might be ok), front drivers tire is jammed into the body of the car. Im assuming the suspension on driver's front is completely toast...strut, shock, a-arm (or whatever its called) all toast. Sigh.....

I shoulda let them dumb SOB hit me, then it would have been his insurance paying instead of mine. He never even stopped. Mind you, I probably wouldnt have either. My tires barely made a sound as a hit the brakes. As he didnt check his blind spot anyways, im sure he had no idea I was ever there and that I hit the curb trying to avoid his dumb a$$.

Now, some questions for the more accident prone, or accident experienced. I have never had a single vehicle accident prior to this. Obviously I am insured, but I have no idea on the process now. WRX is at the shop courtesy of our free CAA membership but now what? I pay Westboro my deductible and they work the rest out with insurance...or do I pay the whole thing and then insurance co pays me back later? Also, seeing as how i was interested in the C-West kit for the car anyways....is there some way that I can have insurance pay for a part of the kit? Im figuring that for example that the front spolier cost...ohh...$700 and the C-West is $800. Can I order the C-West and have Westboro install that and I just pay the $100 difference? Also, my tires have a winter's worth of wear on them now. Can I replace just 2 tires or do I need to do all 4...and in that case will insurance pay to replace all 4 or just the damaged tires?

Im sorry if this is clueless of me, just never been in an insurance related situation before.

Thanks for any help or info guys.

Hrm. I've only had my car vandalised. You have to make a determination if this is considered your at fault accident. The police will know this and probably since you didn't actually make contact with him it is.

Next, take the car to a good shop that does collisions. I will let you determine who that might be as I don't want to spend time @#$#@ talking the two stealer****s in Ottawa.

Get an estimate on the dammage some place you may not want to have them fix it. Tell them that you're going to be paying for the job yourself (insurance versus personal quotes can vary by as much as 800%). Call your insurance co and ask what a claim will do to your rates. Do not tell them that you've been in an accident or anything.

Then either pay it out of your pocket or call your insurance co and an adjuster will probably get in touch with you as to proceeding.

If I ever caught someone vandalizing my vehicles they'd find his lifeless corpse floating down the river next week.
Anyways, how do you know the suspension is wrecked?

I had a friend in your shoes a few years back. Going west-bound he was coming off the Pincrest/Greenbank [Ikea] offramp in the left lane. Some lady comes flying off in the right lane and cuts into his lane. He goes to avoid her and in the process does a nice little off-road trip.

Rips up the front cosmetics and tears the exhuast on some signage. Lady doesn't make contact with him and keeps on going. The cop noted what had happened on the report. Initially his insurance was going to blame him as he "choose" to swerve . Lucky break, someone behind got her plate # and dropped it off at the cop shop.

Now that they have an additional witness the cops charge the lady with carless and reckless causing an accident and leaving the scene as it was clear she saw what she did .

Her insurance ended up footting the bill. Your problem is going to be convincing your insurance you were forced off the road. Emphazise that as much as possible.

The way it works either way is all you pay is the deductible to the repair shop, the insurance will send them a check for the difference. I'd post an add in the paper asking for witnesses and even tape a few papers up at the intersection. You never know who saw this happen.

Best of luck ! Its pretty sad when you actually would have been better off to let the guy hit you .

Seems I really did quite a number on it. At least $4500 in dmg.
- 2 new rims on drivers side
- shock/strut assembly front drivers side
- new rubber front drivers side
- new front spolier
- new side skirt
- new cross member
- and various other small parts on the front drivers side related to the suspension

They figure it will be mid next week before it will be fixed. Westboro has a good relationship with the adjuster that is coming to do the appraisal on Tuesday and my insurance company (Wawanesa) was pretty cool about things. Though I will have to pay the $300 deductible and as I didnt get a good description of the other guys car there isnt much they can do. There were no witnesses around. Road was clear both infront and behind me, with no oncoming vehicles nearby and no pedestrians anywhere. I Checked around at the nearby Sunoco station but nobody saw or heard anything.

Ah well, all things considered it could have been worse I guess. At least nobody was hurt. It was just my time to have an accident. 13 years and this is my 1st accident (where i was the driver) I drive about 35-50,000 km a year, mostly city driving, so it was pretty well inevitable that this was gonna happen eventually. meanwhile, im enjoying my rental. 2001 Jeep Grand Cheroke Laredo. Its no WRX but it is a nice ride.
