Default Maintenance and Warranty

Hey folks,

I tried searching but could not find anything. I apologize if this has been covered.

This is an age old question: How will performing my own maintenance affect my warranty? I would rather do my own maintenance as it is fairly easy and much, much cheaper. With my previous vehicle, a Jeep Wrangler, I did all my own maintenance including oil changes, differential services, etc. Well I didnt have a warranty on the Jeep so didn't really care about warranty issues. Well now that I have a brand new 08 WRX I am concerned about maintaining the warranty especially since I bought a 70K bumper to bumper warranty for extra peace of mind. I called the dealer and the 30K mile service is $675.

DO I just need to keep receipts and a detailed log of what I did? Is that good enough to not void my warranty?

Also take pics/scan your receipts and burn the jpeg image to a CD-R. Thermo printed receipts can fade and be unreadable in a few years. Keep your receipts in marked envelopes for each service performed. Also mark on your reciepts when you changed oil and the date. Keep everything in a safe place like a sentry locking fire chest that cost around $25.00 at walmart.

Log is not good enough, nor is my.subaru.com though that's a damn good log. RECEIPTS are what will save you, nothing else.
