Default MFactory Gear set

I've recieved a lot of questions about the MFactory close ratio gear set lately so I figured I would try to answer them here.

Please feel free to post all your questions here but try to keep it on the topic of this set. (no comments on other ratios, other brands, etc please )

Ratios:

1st - 3.27
2nd - 2.286
3rd - 1.667
4th - 1.238
5th - 0.958

They are available in a 1-5 and 1-4 set to use a stock 5th gear.

1-5 Set - $2549
1-4 Set - $2299

If you would like to calculate your top speed per gear for your tire size and redline you can do so here:

http://teammfactory.com/gearcalculat...=0&trannytype=

Fittment:

We've installed quite a few sets of these over the past few months and have been very happy with the quality of fittment of them.

Use:

This set is designed for for fast road / Auto-X / Road Race use.

They are a semi-helical design good for around 350ft/lbs (maximum we have tested so far).

Noise and Shifting:

There is a noticeable increase in gear whine, I would estimate at maybe a 10% increase in noise.

Shifting remains smooth and unchanged.

Professional thoughts:

It's nice to finally have an option between RA and PPG gears for those of us who don't need a $4600 gear set. Yes these gears are shorter than stock but the increase in acceleration will put a smile on your face (especially you RS guys ).

I will try and have the owners of the sets chime in with their own reviews here too.

I forgot about ya'lls final drive...yeah, they would be great with that. They would be a terror on a 4.444 set-up though. You'd be shifting like a Gixxer on that set-up!

On the 4:11 final in the RS they make a huge difference.

We're putting them behind our H6 with a 4:44 final drive later this week

Out of the car is $275 + parts

In the car is $675 + parts (no additional labor cost for clutch replacement while trans is out)

I have not had the same issue that Andrewtech did with 2nd gear in any of our installs, I believe their's was an early test set so that may have been the issue.

Hello DS1 , I'm hoping you can measure thickness of each gear , and count the teeth on each gear. I want to see if these are stronger than my APS gearset because I am upgrading to a 20g 8cm + mass other loads of **** and the APS are rated very low 325tq. Let me know please thank you.

Gearset measurments:
1st gear : 17mm wide , teeth count : 38 ratio: 3.45
2nd gear : 14-15mm wide , teeth count : 35 ratio: 1.94
3rd gear : 15mm wide , teeth count : 31 ratio: 1.36
4th gear : 16mm wide , teeth count : 26 ratio: .96
5th gear : 16mm wide , teeth count : 27 ratio: .96

I converted inches into MM. This is what I came up with my APS gearset.

I know this is a noob question and sort of off-topic, but would I run into any problems installing a 06-07 3.70fd into a 2004 WRX?

I like this gearset option, but I am not crazy about the calculated 139mph top speed.

txl146- Original post updated with pricing

06wrxlbart- The width of the gear doesn't determine strength, it's the material, tooth profile, ratios and processing of the metal that make all the difference (aka why 04' gears are no stronger than 02' gears )

Crisco3- The final drive swap isn't hard but involves a lot of parts. 139mph is a little faster than most need to go

wopgenius- I much prefer these over stock gears. What about the stock trans don't you like? There are many of the issues that can be fixed without a gear set.

juanmedina- A 30R is capable of making quite a bit of power, it would depend on your driving style and how much power you put down.

QUESTIONS:
Car 07 WRX

1- How will this effect hwy driving if I do the MF 1-4 with OEM 5?
2- effects on gas mileage?
3- I have no idea if its an option or a good idea, but what about 1-3 and OEM 4/5. Possible? If so, at what price?

I worry about the short top gears because while my car is a DD and mostly autocross, there is an event twice a year where my car sees 150+ mph. I dont want to completely ruin that aspect.

thanks
Shawn

^^ 150mph+ holy carp!

1- If you keep the stock 5th there will be no difference at highway speeds.
2- Gas milage around town may go down slightly, on the highway there will be no loss
3- We can only do 1-4 or 1-5, sorry

Thanks for the info.

Here is the event I was talking about. Standing mile. start from a start and you have one mile to go as fast as you can. the very last few hundred yards your top speed is measured.

www.texasmile.com

there are a few subbies hitting 170+ and my friends 42r build is going for 200+ in october.

I did some calculations

MF Gear 1-4 OEM 5 (red)
07 WRX OEM (Blue)

http://www.teammfactory.com/gearcalc...ission+1+and+2

Formatting on forums arent my specialty but here is an Excel I made. The "Redline Shift to RPM" is how i am describing where you land when you redline the gear before. Also those are estimates I made by looking at the chart that I made on MF's site.

HTML Code:
Type	Gear	Redline Shift to RPM	Ratio	Top MPH
MF	1	0	3.270	38
MF	2	4,500	2.286	55
MF	3	4,500	1.667	75
MF	4	4,500	1.238	101
OEM	5	3,500	0.738	170

OEM	1	0	3.454	36
OEM	2	3,500	1.947	65
OEM	3	4,500	1.366	92
OEM	4	4,500	0.972	129
OEM	5	4,500	0.738	170
