Hey guys,
I just hit 9k miles on my 2006 STi ( I rarely drive it). I was wondering what maintenance needs to be done at 9k. In the Maintenance handbook, the next tune-up interval after 7,500 miles is 11,250miles. I was told to do maintenance every 3k miles. Should I just wait until I hit 11,250 or do something now at 9,000. If so what needs to be done at 9,000. I'm assuming an oil change but what else? Thanks in advance Matt

Minimum: Oil Change.
And if you're anal like me: Coolant, brake fluid, tranny gear oil, and rear diff. gear oil; but, then again, I do these myself so all I pay for are the fluids. Oh yeah, one more thing: drive your car more! |

....re-read the service schedule. It's split up by miles or months (whichever comes first). Pay special attention to the "notes" section at the bottom of the maintenance table. When following a frequent routine (like oil changes), you will likely find that the "table" may not fall in line with your specific use/application. In other words, it's not so important that you change it exactly at 3k, 7.5k, 15k, etc. since chances are that you will change the oil/filter a bit sooner in some cases. It's simpler to remember that the intervals should be at least 3,750 miles or ~3.75 months (whicever comes first). Keep a log. ....personally, I keep a log and use the Trip "B" to monitor miles in between oil changes.
Don't neglect to take note of other items on the table though (i.e. timing belt, plugs, brake fluid, etc.). .....also make sure you read all of the "remarks" (special notations) for each maintenance item as well. For my own vehicles, I always use the "severe conditions" recommendations to be on the safe side. ......I do my own maintenance as like jk988 so this is cheap and relatively easy for me to do anyhow. |
