Default quick questions

I have some quick questions.......well, maybe not so quick answers, but either way. I have the opportunity to get a 2005 wrx STi (rolled, but no suspension/engine/interior damage, just crushed the roof) and I have a 2000 legacy gt 5 spd with a bad engine, My main question IS....how much of the STi will swap over? The STi is complete and if required I could swap subframes, basically anything needed from the 2 cars, I think a legacy wagon STi would be bad-ass, any input would be helpful....thanks,

YES !!!

Do it !!!

You will need to swap the entire powertrain, the instrument cluster, and the entire suspension (at least what will fit), brakes, wheels... pretty much EVERYTHING.

You will also need to have a special wiring harness built up for it.... Assuming you were to swap EVERYTHING.. then the new harness will be basically the STi Harness lengthened to fit the Legacy.

Default hmmm

So, by saying with the suspension "what will fit"....what will fit? the car has Tein flex coilovers and I would like to reuse them, they only have 3000 miles on them.....and if I just removed the STi harness it should be routed the same as the leggy, right? I will have the complete car......actually it still drives (drove it around the block today), its just a little shorter on the headroom now.....So how involved would this be? would the sub-frames be different, I'm looking at no more than a 2-week time frame to do the complete swap-over, will the dash fit or would I use just the cluster?

Read the thread created by Ten80.

It's a heck of a lot of work, but when I rode in the car it was absolutely amazing. He had the leather seats and such so it was a super luxurious car that got up and scooted.

You have do this and then post videos for us.

I think the only drawback is that your Legacy is a 2000 which is heavier than the previous generation. Which isn't the worst thing in the world.

Okay your suspension setup is fine... leave it alone.

All I really ment to say was that *IF* you put an STi drivetrain on a Stock base model Legacy L your stock suspension will have problems when you drive the car hard... Same thing with the brakes. (it makes sense to use the STi Brakes, instead of stock Legacy brakes).

By swapping the 5x100 Legacy wheel/hubs/brake setup with the more robust 2005 WRX Sti 5x114 wheel/hubs/brakes you are equiping your car with brakes that work well with your cars performance capabilities.

So the Legacy has TEINS or the STi has them? If the STi has them you won't be able to reuse them because the rear suspension differences between the models. Legacy has multi-link, STI has macpherson strut.

STi has the Teins....... Man, I was really hoping this was gonna be easy, but reading the how-to above, it is gonna take forever, I only have the shop space for 2 weeks and still have a full time job to maintain and it won't be like a cg8 to sti swap.......I may have to pass, but I still think my Leggy wagon would be "impressive" with basically an impreza in it. Gonna contemplate and stock-pile more info on it....I will let everyone know by the end of the week.
