Default Remote oil filter

Has anyone installed a remote oil filter setup? I have heard that it reduces oil temperature....plus I'd like to be able to run 2 filters and have the changing of them not as messy and easier accessable. Cleaner, cooler oil a good thing ?

I don't care for a remote mounted filter unless really needed. I doubt very much that your oil will be measurably cooler. You will always have the extra hoses and fittings that may leak, Just not my idea of a good thing to do unless required for some special reason. JMO

i read up on this sometime ago, and basically for the cost + risk of leaking (motor failure) it's not worth it on gasoline engines. now diesels that may run 500K+ miles on one engine, and you would be able to run the oil like 50K+, then the cost would be warranted.

BYPASS oil filters can increase your oil life to 50k. A regular remote filter will not do this.
More oil takes longer to heat up, a remote filter increases the total amount of oil.
Amsoil's new EA (Donaldson) filters are supposed to last 25k. They also have bypass systems.

The fittings and tubing you select will be the difference between worrying about it and trusting it.

Thank you for all the replies...I'm going to do more investigation on the bypass kits. Amsoil has some info. on their own kits.
I do alot of 100km plus highway driving (207,000km 2000 Outback...24,000km 2006 Impreza new May 1/06). Oils are changed every 5000km, synthetic.
