Question Need something... not sure what its called

I looked but couldn't find this info... If I am posting something that someone has already answered, please point me in the right direction. If not, I appreciate the help.

My problem is that I want to wire up my Defi gauges, and my WAI system. I think I should probably attach to a fuse panel somewhere, but I'm really not sure where or how. Both spots should be on only when the ignition is on. The Defi gauges don't need much current (5-10 amps or so? You all know better than me) but the WAI is a Cooling mist kit, so with the 150 psi pump, I figure it'll probably suck some current (25-50 amps? again you know better). I am not running any other "special" electronics, just stock radio.

Please advise.

Sorry, may be confusing, went back and reviewed... the "thing" I need that I don't know what it's called is a blank spot on a fuse panel (I guess).

Also... I tried to figure this out for about an hour tonight... how in the HECK does that connector under the steering wheel come apart (I think it's for reading CEL's).

Thanks guys,
Pick

You should be able to purchase a fuse tap for a minifuse at a good auto parts store or a repair shop that specializes in electrical repairs.

I'm not sure what plug you talking about under the dash to take apart. The OBD2 connector for reading the codes is just a socket under the dash you plug the test set plug into.

Default Fuse tap

That's the one, the OBD2 I guess is what I'm talking about. I want to take that panel out, and I can't figure out how to get the connector to come off so I can take the wire harness off the back of it to release the whole panel.

But a "fuse tap" is what I need? That will allow me to connect my electronics to a fuse? I was hoping Subaru would have figured someone would have wanted to run a couple accessories and wired up some extras. Kind of like the fuse panel in your house being expandable. How does a fuse tap work, and is that my best or only option?

Thanks guys,
Pick

I looked up fuse taps. Are those really good? They look like if you install a couple it'll get kinda cluttered. Should I not worry about that and do it anyway? Or... should I try to wire into the back of a fuse block somehow, and have it look a little more factory? Help as always, is much appreciated.
thanks,
Pick

Fuse taps suck and will eventually be a point of failure.

Find yourself some Scotch Locks or T-Taps and a heavy duty fuse holder, locate a 12v ignition source under your dash, and splice in there. Your 12 volt ignition source should be a fairly heavy gauge wire coming out of your steering column.

Default Thanks

I appreciate your help. I found these:
http://www.accessafuse.com/access.htm

and purchased some. But, now I think since I read a bunch of DEFi install posts on here, I am just going to tap into the clock.

Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.
