Cool The **Official** Appreciate Your Loved Ones / Life Thread (STOP AND READ)

Okay, we've got ongoing threads for farts, GFs/Wives, Photography, Motorcycles, grills, vacuums...ect...

This is one for life appreciation.

So, everytime you see this thread...stop for a moment. Appreciate your life, and those around you. Remember what's important to you in life, whatever it might be.
Be thankful for friends that love you. Appreciate Wives/GFs/Husbands/BFs and their love. Be grateful for Parnets, siblings...and all your family, even if you don't like them all the time. Cherish your kids if you have 'em. Your health, wealth/shelter, experiences...or the fact that you woke up this morning without a white line around you.

Please bump this thread whenever you feel you need to.
Near-accident on the highway...bump.
See a family member/friend you haven't seen in a while...bump.
Watched your kid take their first step...bump.
Visit a family member in the hospital...bump.
Hug your spouse/mate after a long day...bump.
Grandpa passes away...bump.
Take a spirited drive, windows down, glad to be alive...bump.
Just got dumped...bump.
No reason at all...*bump*.

Why is it that we wait until someone dies, or a near-death experience to stop and appreciate life? Our biggest regrets in those moments is that we'd give our fortunes for one more hour...or we didn't say "I love you", enough. We've alllll felt this way at some point, no? This thread is to reduce that, even if just a tiny bit. Why wait until those moments to regret? We get caught up in the daily grind, and forget how much of a gift each day is. And its different for everyone. Not married, maybe you have loving parnets...appreciate it. Low on money, you're healthy perhaps...appreciate it. Nothin' else, you got to see the sun rise one more day.

This thread is hopefully just a small reminder, to stop and think.
I hope it gets bumped often *raises beer glass*. *subscribed*

BTW, I understand how out of OT character this thread is.

And no...nothing has prompted me to start this thread.
I just personally make it a point, everyday, to appreciate life...and the important things, no matter how busy life gets.
I thought it'd make a good thread.

Its also occured to me...that this thread could take a turn to the negative.
For example...I could sit here and be bummin' about how my grampa did pass away a couple years back, and that I miss him.

Or I could remember all the great time we had, and am thankful that I had a great grampa.

Recognize and appreciate what you do...and what you have now.

While the intent of this thread is noble, it does not meet the cynicism and/or surliness threshold required by OT to be taken seriously.

I've never quite understood why OT is unwilling to partake in threads such as these.

True that. I could focus on the fact that I have made some stupid choices in my college and am paying for them now. Or I could be thankful that I've managed to pull my head out of my ass and still have a chance to better my future.

My sister just graduated, and my brother joins the Air Force in 29 days. Crazy to see where each of our lives are going. I just hope we don't end up like to many other brothers and sisters and lose touch over the years.

As a whole, the persona of this country forgets this more and more every passing generation. We are so blind to how good we have it here that this idea of being appreciative and thankful is on its way to becoming extinct. Yes, their are a lot of poor and struggling people in this country, but the almost all of those people still have it better then the majority of the rest of the people in the world who struggle with the most basic of needs like shelter and food everyday. But they compare themselves to the 'haves' of this country and not the "have not's" of the world...I can only see this as getting worse and worse with each passing generation. I know I am appreciative for what I have and the life I am able to live, the most important thing for me is making sure my children have the same persepective and understand that the life we live is something that should not be taken for granted and it is to be respected...

ZMan...I couldn't possibly agree more.
I could go on and on about the mentality of our country...but I won't here.

But regarding passing on this to generations...
I'll tell ya' that everyday, when I pray with my son, appreciation for life is the first thing we hit.

When we pray with my daughter she thanks God for bugs, her stuffed kitty snowy, the dead fish we flushed to heaven, or any number of other random things that might or might not have happened that day.

good times. bump.

is there a howto on this? Try as hard as I might I just can't appreciate life. I hate it more and more everyday and it has been a struggle to be less surly in OT lately.

For cereal? What are some positives in your life?
Who are some loved ones that you're glad you have in your life?
- Wife/GF?
- Kids?
- Parnets?
- Grand-parnets?
- Friends?

Life experiences?
- College?
- Places you've been?
- Fun things you've done that count as "milestones" in life?

What do you like to do?
- Hobbies?
- Pastime?
- Sports?
- Music you like?

What could you consider that makes you glad you woke up in the morning?
