Default Help me find a good local machine shop

I'm looking to get some headwork done (valvejob, port, polish) in the near future and need to find a good machine shop. Can people who have experience reccomend me some reputable shops in the greater Boston area?

I'm having a motor for my Trans Am built up at Custom Automotive Machine in Weymouth right now. So far, they have been reasonable and the motor looks really nice. He did a 3-angle valve job on my heads, and it looks great. They are more of an old-school shop, and they mainly do older V8 engines, but they also welcome newer and obscure stuff. I don't know if they have ever done anything for a Subaru engine before, but the main guy there has been doing this for almost 40 years and is really good. He's on vacation this week, though (I was just there this morning) but his assistant is there. Their number is 781-331-6763, and the main guy there is named Dana. I'm not sure of the assistant's name.

There is another shop in Whitman, MA called Reid's Automotive, and I believe they have worked on Subaru engines before. I don't have their number though. A friend of mine used to work there and said that a lot of the local tuner shops used them to do their machine work, and he saw a few Subaru 4-cylinders pass through there.

Thanks. I'll be calling sometime soon to get some quotes. Anyone else know of good machine shops for this kind of work? I want quality work, but price is also a concern as I'm a near-broke college student. Hoping to do my whole build with <$3K.

I'm not sure what the valve job alone costs, but my heads ended up costing around $700-800 IIRC. That included hot tanking and cleaning the heads (they were extremely rusty and gross ), new springs, a valve job, the valves and seats cut, freeze plugs, assembly, and Pontiac Blue paint. Again, that was for cast iron Pontiac 400 heads. I have no clue what a DOHC, 4-valve per cylinder Subaru head would cost.
