Question Please help with my Defi EGT install!

I am trying to install my Defi EGT gauge sensor. I need to know where to put it. I am hoping these are pictures of the appropriate place to insert that sensor... just tell me if I am right.

The big red arrows are pointing at my guess:

If not, where does it go? If I am right, how hard is it going to be to get this bolt loose?

Thanks,
Pick

So, I should drill and tap my own hole? What is this thing for, if not for an EGT sensor? It's just a random bolt sticking out of the downpipe I guess?

i'm thinking you bought your car used? Looks like someone may have had an egt or wideband tapped there, mine had one as well when i bought it. Regardless, search for the install instructions, you'll need to tap a hole in your manifold. You are going to find lots of different ways to do this, pick one you are most comortable with.

I did buy my car used, and the guy put a lot of aftermarket parts on it. So, I am unsure of a lot of things assosciated with the car, that's why I am asking a lot of questions on here.

This car does have headers on it. Does that change install location? I am going to look at it right now. If anyone has any advice please let me know. I am sure I'll be back on in a few minutes with more questions since nothing on my car is stock.
Thanks,
Pick

nope, that won't change the install location.

the headers bolt on right at the block. The thick cast manifold is gone, and has been replaced with header. I am supposed to drill and tap the header? It is maybe a little thicker than normal exhaust piping, will it hold?

With headers you are going to have to drill a hole near the collector for the drivers side bank and then have a bung welded on that accepts the EGT probe that came with your gauge.
The pipe thickness will not support tapping and there will not be enough thickness to keep the probe from blowing out almost immediately.

Is a great tutorial for installing Defi's,a nd if you scroll down towards the bottom it illustrates the EGT installation but on a stock manifold.
Read through the Unibomber FAQ for gauges and you will find a lot of good information about most gauges.
Also those pictures you posted are where you want to mount your wideband 02 sensor, not your EGT.
By the time your exhaust gasses hit that spot, they have cooled enough to make your expensive EGT gauge useless as I am told.
The proper spot for EGT probe is as close to the exhaust port as is feasible.

Question Necessary?

I know you said it was necessary to have a bung welded on. That was my take at first, but I contacted the manufacturer of the headers (GTSpec) and asked them. They said just drill and tap, apparently "it's done all the time". Any comments or concerns? I think I may try it, and then if it's bad, I'll have the bung welded on that spot.
Thanks again,
Pick
