Just post his email on 4chan, and let the anon take care of the rest. I've witnessed lives get ruined before my very eyes.

Doesn't need a sticky IMO, but that is why you don't send $2200 to a new forum member across the country.

I agree with aspect, it's impressive how they gathered all the info from other forums and Google. The removal of the white box on the license plate is the best part! The funny part is that this scammer still denying

It was an interesting read. I'm curious about the blanking out of the license plates. I always figured that a filter could be reversed (like the swirl marks on the picture of the pedophile they caught) but I thought a solid white box would be hard to uncover.

Anybody have a high-res picture of their license plate covered for me to play with?

i spend like 2 hours reading every single post of the thread. like i said before, i am totally impressed by their determination and skills. looks like the scammer is going no where.

if you read through the whole thing, you would then know what i am talking about.

i remember we did have a situation like this a while back, it was about a damaged shocks, wondering what was the result of that instant?

anyway, i am sitting tight to see the miserable ending of that scammer. Man hunt FTW.

Background: A guy sells (non-existing) wheels to multiple people for thousands of dollars each and keeps trying to stall about lost shipments until payment clears. He's been doing this a lot and despite constant banning, he creates multiple new accounts to deny and defend himself. Scammer is able to do the scam by exploiting a flaw in DHL shipping software.

The Action: Members of the forum (which include people with access to all sorts of levels of gov't/business) get fed up and start searching for the scammer's location. Despite the use of proxies, the scammer is identified as being in Boston, MA. His myspace, ebay, paypal accounts are found along with possible place of work and residence. Photos of his car are used to identify the license plate (even when the plates were blocked out). People also determine his location from a shot of the map on his GPS. Authorities are notified and they are monitoring the situation.

This all happened over the weekend, and although it appears now that a refund has been issued because of the tightening noose, it has not cleared yet and we don't know to what extent authorities will get involved.

What intrigues me the most is how someone was able to get plate numbers from pictures even though the plates were blocked out. Look at this post and this one and this one. They show examples of how someone was able to reveal blocked license plates. Anyone know how that's possible?
